Recently read Punpun for the first time, really enjoyed the entirety of it. Some people are disappointed by the way things turn out in the latter half of the manga, even though the earlier half was pretty much a giant build-up for it.

If anything, I was expecting him to commit suicide or something of the sort. The whole manga was way too tragic to have an ending that "happy".

I actually read an interview of Asano right after finishing Punpun and he said that, for Punpun, living with the memories and guilt for the things he's done is way more tragic than dying so he thinks he's actually got a bad ending.
