So I started this show thinking that it would be halfway between SAO and Steins;Gate and made it to episode 18, but this is just too fucking much. Subaru is fucking pathetic and gets even more pathetic every passing minute. There's no comedy or relief at all after the first episodes and the show's just become this massive chug of depression and pity at this point. Does this change at all in the anime or in whatever manga/VN in which the story continues? I'm dropping it if it stays this edgy and unenjoyable.

Mostly in the side-stories.

The final Arc of the anime was the worst one, and the ending was really weak.
But if you've made it to episode 18, everything after that is pretty optimistic.
