YYH began serialization in 90' and Sailor Moon started in 91'. Both were at the forefront of pop culture for almost the entirety of that decade, along with DBZ which started in 88' as Dragon Ball. These were among the top hitters, the shows that not only defined the 90's by taking ideas and aesthetics from the 80's and improving upon them but also by creating their own niches. In turn, these anime then helped create those of the 00's which again took tried and true designs and story lines and made them their own. The 10's have gone even further, moe is definitely the look of this decade as is apparent in its perfection this late in the timeline. I'm quite curious to see what the 20's hold in store for us though I'm dreading the possibility of CGI becoming the next big thing.

For all that people will argue over cel animation vs digital, citing the latter as being inferior due to lacking an essence of 'life' in the art, CGI is what will truly take that away. No matter how good the instrument is fine tuned, it always feels robotic and it seeps into the uncanny valley a little too much for my personal liking. With series like Precure integrating more and more CGI into their shows and anime like Kemono Friends which (correct me if I'm wrong) are comprised entirely of CGI, I don't see any other future for the industry at the moment.

What I'm saying is, the way anime has evolved over the years is quite interesting and whether or not you like one decade or one style is irrelevant. We're all here to have a good time and we shouldn't shit on each others parade every time a cel vs. digital animation thread pops up. The 80's did certain things well, the 90's did other things well, the 00's and 10's did yet more things well. As such, I don't think its good to get hung up on the age of an anime and be one of those people who says 'I wont watch anything before 95'' or some such nonsense. Watch it all and appreciate it for what it is, I say.
