Guts will never fight the godhand. They're a figment of the heart's imagination and can never be truly defeated. Guts will kill the heart itself and that's how the godhand is eliminated and the story ends with a crippled Griffith in Guts' arms. He then gets cucked with Caska taking care of Griffith.
