Basically the whole concept was right. It was just executed horribly, almost as if the writers never actually played an online game to begin with. No detail in classes, skills or anything and what the fuck is up with skipping 90% of the floors. Also there are to big timeskips, no appealing characters beside pre-waifu Asuna and to much Gary Stue Kirito.

Make the whole thing 60 episodes long, stay in fucking Aincrad all the time, show us the fucking floors, give Klein, one or two of the sidebitches and some other characters some actual relevance and screentime, put some details in the actual game and you probably have one of the most entertaining anime in a long time. I mean the main character even scores, this could have been fucking great

Never leave Aincrad. Stakes just got progressively lower and lower, it became difficult to keep interest. Seriously though, you could have made the whole series around Aincrad and it would have been better. I'm still trying to wrap my head around how VRMMO's are still a thing past SAO in-universe, just the massive fallout from that entire situation should have set VRMMOs a generation back.
