Katana wasnt made for bashing. It was made for fast cut. That's why it's harder to learn. Because you need mastery to precisely cut unprotected joints.

A thicker, heavier sword more suited to direct impact works comes off better in a direct impact with a lighter, thinner sword not designed for direct impacts.

Next lets fire an airgun at an antitank gun, then an antitank gun at an airgun, in order to prove the superiority of an antitank gun.

>katana wasn't made for bashing
I know you're probably baiting, but seriously? You do realize slashing cuts with a long sword are useless when you're fighting an armored foe, right? I'd imagine this was especially problematic in Japan since their armor was cheaper to produce. So katana were totally used as blunt bashing weapons to knock people off balance and likely rarely used for slashing because what sane footsoldier wouldn't be wearing some form of armor?

Towards the end of medieval combat everyone used polearms with a pointed hammer to penetrate armor because swords would just bounce off unless you caught your opponent from a really weird angle or knocked them down.

>>
>>153203013

I am unclear on how you define the proper usage of a Katana. The chemical and structural properties of the sword's construction don't change depending on how you use it. Katanas were designed to be what they are because they didn't need to be anything else.

Japs didn't have access to shitloads of iron. The iron they do have is pretty shitty due to the fact that the iron ore found under Japan has a poor composition for alloy-making and there's not very much of it. Peasants didn't even own swords, and smart samurai fought on horseback with spears or bows, so it's not like these weapons received a lot of abuse.

>>153205770

>Towards the end of medieval combat everyone used polearms with a pointed hammer to penetrate armor

Either that or they beat the living fuck out of you with a big metal club. That was thanks to the fact that Europeans had lots of great steel to work with. European plate would stop a katana no problem because it's build to take broadswords head on. Japanese had to work with armor plates made out of lacquered wood and lamellar segments. Jap armor technology never got advanced enough to warrant late medieval era weaponry.

Also let's not forget that the katana, or the daisho it's a part of, is a ceremonial weapon. A lot of samurai chose spears, poleaxes, and war clubs as more practical weapons while the katana was a sidearm.

>>
>>153209258
Katana are already very dense and hard due to the numbers of layers are folded into them during their creation.

The real problem here is twofold. First, Katana are not used by bashing it against something and pushing the blade through with force. That's more like how an axe works and you will quickly blunt or break a katana using it like that. Katana are a slashing and thrusting weapon. To properly cut with one there is a specific way of swinging it to draw the edge against what you are attacking. This slices it open like a scalpel but doesn't work well against armored or hard targets for obvious reasons.

Second is that Japanese iron and steel were awful. The iron they had to work with was low quality and they never advanced beyond one of the oldest and shitiest methods of making steel blades, folding. Yes, folding is nothing special, pretty much every country that figured out how to make steel figured out the folding method, some even before Japan did. Europe just advanced further and learned better methods of making steel along with their higher quality and quantities of steel.

For what its designed to do the katana is actually beautifully designed, but Japan was shit when it came to producing steel.
>>
>>153209940
