I got really blind drunk last night while sitting alone in front of the computer and started thinking. So we know that magic can only be performed in the vicinity of a sorcerer's stone, right? Have any of you read the Discworld books, wherein magic is essentially a finite resource and casting spells uses it up. It's stated that in the distant past during the age of sorcerers, magic used to be stronger, more abundant and untamed. Powerful spells were easier for the common wizard to perform on account of the sorcerers who at the time still lived acting as conduits through which new magic can enter the world.

I can't really remember the point in that train of thought, but it just seemed like an interesting idea to me if the world's magic was essentially drying up.
