So I understand that we are SUPPOSED to hate how perfect Diana is after this episode, but that is no excuse for how lazy the reason is why she can read the dragon language.

Since episode 2 it was established that she is part of a prestigious family. What does that tell us?:
She has big shoes to fill. so it would make sense that she would work hard to be good at everything the school has to offer in order to honor her family name.

But does learning a language that hasn´t been used for like 1000 years fit into that picture?

There´s no reason to believe that she would have ever needed that knowledge, just like with the Papilliodya in episode 2, and that is why episode 2 worked so well in regards to Dianas character!

Dianas goal is to live up to her family name, and in order to do that, she has to be a good student.
Knowing stuff she would normally never need in the context of Luna Nova is just overkill.

At the very least she was able to use some advanced stuff or was gifted, she uses a rod unique to her, was a winner of the relay, at the very least is competent enough to become a professor at Luna Nova. It means that Akko will either overcome her ultimate goal to become at least somewhat of a rival to Diana, find another endgoal completely, which would be weird considering how much emphasis was put on her. The trading card, shinny rod, intro scene etc.
