YOI provides that because it's lighthearted, fun and full of heartwarming characters and couples, just looking at YOI merch is a mood booster. Rakugo gives you tragedy and misery, people don't really jump at the chance to line their walls with posters of a doomed no homo couple, no matter how much they enjoy the story. There are exceptions of course, but Rakugo is niche to begin with, and it's not reasonable to blame fujos specifically for not spending money on it. I'm not saying it was bereft of story/feels, but overall it was less emotionally engaging. It swung in the favour of visual and choreographic direction which I appreciated; but unfortunately that meant when FF did start to try and focus on story it didn't feel nearly as effective in comparison to YOI.

Then again, it's apples and oranges. I liked both series for different reasons, but I only bought BDs for YOI because it's the one that stuck with me post-finale.

Emotionally manipulating the viewer (not that it's a bad thing) is a sure fire way to score more sales. People want to see where the relationship between Yuuri and Victor goes, thus they pump more money into sales for S2. At the end of FF there wasn't as much of a push to see Cocona and Papika in the same way, thus less sales (in part, obviously there are lots of other factors that lead to it's flop).

Vol 3 of YOI might drop but vol 4 will have the ebin surprise kiss scene that made the overseas fandom suddenly blow up and sent the fandom screeching off with HOLY SHIT DID THEY REALLY DO THAT THIS IS NOT A DRILL, so I really think vol 4 will sell well even if 3 will experience a drop. Vol 5 will then have ep 10 with it's no homo engagement and banquet reveal, and I'm assuming it'll sell really well as well because that episode was fucking amazing.
