This big arc has been fairly boring. It feels like it's not entirely gintama. I know it's what the gorilla wantd to do in the first place but gintama was really a comedy first and foremost.

Trust me, a lot of people share/d this reaction. The only reason I give it a pass is because a few (currently) out of context things.

1) It's Sakamoto, he seems to be unable to see any bad in the people he makes business with. At the beginning of the arc you saw how he doesn't seem to think any ill from Takasugi. Admittedly it's probably like Zura says and didn't our happy merchant see walking fashion crime doing all the bad things he actually did but the same applies to Nobu Nobu.

2) As said above, Sakamoto is befriending him, wait for the other's reactions (tho I don't remember this development getting much of a reaction from Gin).

3) The Gorilla has a tendency to kill any villain he reforms a few minutes after his/her sobstory is revealed, I can count with a hand the people who survived and Nobu Nobu is in that list so it's not something he pulls all the time (also, you can argue if some of them actually survived at all).

To be fair, he had to cut off his sensei's head. All four have their problems but I think Gintoki was the most disturbed by everything.

Katsura says in the Benizakura arc that the reason he keeps fighting and doesn't despair is because Gintoki keeps going and living despite having more reasons than anyone else to hate the world.
Sakamoto didn't have any personal investment with Shoyo so it's natural that it didn't affect him at all.
And Takasugi got especially mad because Gintoki promised him he would protect Shoyo and instead chose to save him.
