What is with the trend of later seasons (or sequels) of anime changing the name and adding a letter at the end?
>Dragon Ball Z and GT
>Sailor Moon R, S and Super S
>Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam and Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ
What do these letters mean?
I feel like I've seen a very similar thread on /o/

I think GT stood for "Grand Tour". As in the first arc was about a Grand Tour of the galaxy to collect the Black Star Dragon Balls.
But maybe I'm wrong an it was just something Funimation made up because the Japanese never explained it.
It's cooler than using numbers.

Double Zeta was pretty self explanatory.

Z stands for Zenkai, or Saiyan Power
GT stands for Grand Touring
R stands for Rose

Zeta, ZZ, Victory, Wing, X, G, and Turn A were all the names of the main Gundam of the show. It makes perfect sense to put it in the series name since the original was called Mobile Suit Gundam, where Gundam was the name of the RX-78-2.

It was.
Z because of the Z Warriors.
GT because of Great Tour.
Super because it's Super Shit.

To differentiate it from previous shit.
Like Naruto and Naruto Shippuden.
