fucking genius scene. people talk about how they got teary-eyed over noriko returning. I couldn't care less about that. this is the shit that moves me in diebuster.
>>

You can't even capitalize. Figure a tasteless pleb like you doesn't care about Gunbuster.
>>
Nono ;_;
>>
>>153045611
nah gunbuster is good. it's just not on diebuster's level.

Nono ;_;

The ending with Lal'c waiting planetside was maximum ;_;.
>>
>>153046365
Diebuster is better paced, thought-out and more nuanced than Gunbuster.
>>
>>153044431
Yeah, I know it is a shit series. An insult of a sequel to Gunbuster.
>>
diebuster is shit and anyone who says otherwise is baiting
>>
>>153046562
It's the other way around Anon.
Both start kinda slow but Gunbuster ist better at drawing you in with it's sci-fi elements.
>>
>>153046617
People who dislike Diebuster should actually be exterminated. They're idiots who cannot think or feel.
>>
>>153046562
Swap them and you're right.
>>
>>153046679
Gunbuster's ending made me weep. Diebuster's ending made me feel nothing. The entire thing made me feel nothing. Mostly cause I don't see androids/gynoids as living things and don't care for them.
>>
Maybe I need to rewatch gunbusters. All I saw was a girl crying for 5 episodes to the point where I couldn't roll my eyes any harder than I already was, then going rawr for the last episode, and then everyone thought it was amazing.
>>
>>153046934
I felt the same way and I like androids a lot. It felt like a really long compilation movie of what was meant to be a 24 episode series.
>>
>>153046685
>>153046660
Nah all of Diebuster ties together and flows really well
Gunbuster is a bit less focused. The rushed Sumisu romance and death, for example.

I think this is the difference between the two: Diebuster constantly insists on itself as fiction and provokes the audience to think of it in that way. It's more about what it is saying. It's purposefully absurd and nonsensical for this purpose.

Gunbuster does that too but not as much. Which is why all you're interested in is the "sci-fi elements". The HARD WORK AND GUTS platitude isn't challenged at all. It's just a nice sentimental feeling without much thought on the audience's part. Diebuster meanwhile is a lot more cynical towards that stuff.
>>
>>153047434
Diebuster is more goofy, in that sense it's more fiction sure, but otherwise, not really.
Gunbuster pulls a lot of stupid shit the viewer is supposed to accept as part of that piece of fiction, the sci-fi elements are part of that.
The sci-fi elements weave together with the challenges the characters face and creates an intriging setting.
The hard work and guts thing is challenged in how Noriko isn't able to get past her fear and becomes willing to fight.
>>
>>153047738
There are supposed sci-fi "exposition" scenes in Diebuster where the holographic diagrams meant to explain what's going on just show strawberries and funny shapes.

Diebuster isn't interested in providing a coherent or even semi-believable world for the audience to escape into. It's never serious about that. It's more interested in the themes and what it has to say about them.

Gunbuster is as well, but less so, and with worse pacing and more melodrama.

GB and DB are both great. I really hope the sequel they're making is as good as the first 2.

>>153048187
I loved the absurdity of Diebuster. Time travel, telepathy, precognition, and NEGATIVE TEN TRILLION DEGREES are just normal things for the topless

Genki robo-girl accepting the mantle of responsibility

Diebuster is better than gunbuster in almost every single way, aside from maybe the artstyle.

Gunbuster doesn't hold up these days, it's mediocre.
>>
>>153044781
Same desu, Gunbuster had a good ending and all, but I didn't get as upset as most people.
That sequence of Lal'c showing Nono around Earth fucked me up though.

Both are fantastic.

No way is Gunbuster more nuanced and thought-out than Die

Diebuster presents the "hard work and guts" stuff with irony and allows for a more thoughtful interpretation than "if you work hard you will win always :)", without compromising a sentimental ending. There's no such nuance with Gunbuster.

In terms of being thought-out, there's no comparison. Here are some examples:
Recently I discovered that in Diebuster episode 1 Nicolas describes the shape of women's bodies with a hand gesture that looks exactly like the recurring snowman shape throughout the OVA.
Gunbuster has a random throwaway bit where a scientist describes humanity as micro-organisms, or a virus. It goes nowhere. Same with other rushed stuff like the Jung Freud feud and Sumisu romance.
There is no excess in the case of Diebuster. It all flows together.

The character and world designs of DB are well-designed too, with lots of little details.

The Fraternity uniform, for instance, has a few neat functions which only show up once or twice: the collar turns into a helmet to let the wearer breathe in zero-atmosphere conditions, and the boots are magnetic and the sleeves have jets to allow maneuverability in zero-gravity situations.

Here's a little detail I noticed the last time I watched it through: the inside of military ships are shaped like clocks, which is a theme that shows up often
