What you, dear basement-dwelling anti-academics, fail to realize is that no intellectual person considers 'entertaining' books (i.e., genre fiction) to be great literature. It's not only /lit/. Sure, they may read shitty books for fun, nobody said that's a sin. The problem is when all you ever read in life is fantasy and scifi and bestsellers, all because ''''serious'''' literature is too boring or too hard. That was my main gripe with this show. The only well-thought character was that girl who didn't read. As a book club, it was Reddit.
It's the equivalent of saying you're into anime but all you ever watch is battle shounen and moeblobs.

/lit/ is full of English majors, liberal arts freshmen and graduates that fail in getting published year after year. Saying c/lit/s don't read is just plain retarded.

Each board's culture is far too different though. I don't indulge in writing reviews for the MAL of books (see Goodreads) but most of the anons from /lit/ have individually read hundreds of books and written so many reviews there you could compile them into physical volumes that would surpass --by an embarrassingly large margin-- what /a/ has ever said about their favorite shows since the beginning of the board. That's a form their elitism takes.
Nevertheless, there are some core similarities between /a/, /lit/ or even the shithole that is /tv/.
