Guys, there's something I need to fucking know. Are the ghosts real? I'd think it was just symbolic and the style of the show, but Kiku fucking INTERACTS with the ghosts, and afterwards is still somewhat reeling from the encounters, so it's fucking skewed.

It's so confusing, because the show hasn't showed anything that wasn't set in the realm of reality up until the ghosts showing up, but I can't rule it out.

So anons, are the ghosts real or symbolic? I could see it being either at this point.

I had set my expectations pretty high for the ghost parts while reading the manga, and man I'm not disappointed at all. The end of this show will look glorious, brace yourselves, rakugofriends. The director surely knows what he's doing.

As of now, there is absolutely no reason to think that the ghosts are anything more than Kiku's hallucinations. Not the interactions nor the one line that Sukeroku mutters can be taken at face value, and the fact that the only person seeing them is a bitter suicidal old man doesn't add much credibility either.

I think the joke was the guy thought it was his dead wife's spirit knocking at the door, but it was actually the lady next door complaining about the smell, because he got the wrong incense.

But the comedic timing of it was thrown off because we were being drawn into Yakumo's freakout, which made the audience laughter feel surreal instead of sympathetic.

Well there was this Rakugo Association in the first season with masters who decided who can become shin'uchi. Bon become one of those when Yakumo the 7th died.
I think all masters are dead now so Bon was the only master and president of the association. I am not quite sure how it works.
