>crime solving anime is fucking dead

What went so wrong?
>>
>>153006641
People don't want to think or the genre is too easy.
>>
The Detective Conan manga will probably never end so there's that.
>>
>>153006641
Detective Conan is still going strong. Kindaichi had an anime last year I think.
Trends change, so maybe it's just not their time right now, but it might be in the future.
>>
Most of them is really boring, there is no tension at all. Nips can't into mystery.

I'd watch a Zodiac Murders anime tho.

This needs to be adapted.

Conan's still airing.

Checking this right now

This, conan basically holds the monopoly on normal(ish) murder mysteries.

Every other to come out in the last decade has some twist or gimmick to try and make it stand out. The only exception is probably subete ga f ni naru, but that was one of those live action/non light novel exceptions you see usually in anime anyway.

How can you forget this gem?
>>
>>153006641
Is the old kindaichi even that good?

I watched the first cases of the new seasons that aired in the past few years but they were silly pseudoscience bullshit.
>>
>>153007209
Old Kindaichi cases are more drama oriented and their resolutions are a bit hit or miss.

It's not.

when did kindaichi get good I was watching the first few episodes till glasses detective got introduced it the mysteries seemed pretty mediocre why did the auithor give him a bland ass girlfriend
>>
>Nobody watched Un-Go
>>
>>153006641
It's not like it was a particularly inspired genre to begin with. Most of those late 90s / early 00s ones were basically the same shit. "How did they lock the door from the inside?" got old eventually.
>>
>>153008141
More like Un-Ko.
>>
>>153007156
>gem
You mean this piece of crap.
It doesn't even count as mystery.

After watching this piece of shit, Detective Conan ain't ending any time soon
>>
>>153007076
It's a bit shame since it's still a shitty shounen.
>>
Will we see Kindaichi Returns 3? I fucking love this series.
>>
>>153007480
Are the old Kindaichi episodes even all subbed? I think past the first few cases all I can find are absolutely yellow terrible hardsubs.
>>
>>153007019

And that's why detective shows died. The same popular detective show has been going on for 20 years.

Also, why do you want more detective shows in anime? 75% of American TV is shitty detective/cop shows. Be glad anime is doing something different.
>>
>>153014506
The Japanese love murder mysteries. I'd have thought there'd be more series out there. I think Conan should fuck off and let other series try and shine.
Who is even the core audience for Conan? It's too violent for children, yet it's been running for 20 years, longer than Pokemon or One Piece. Are there really that many grown men in Japan who tune in every week?
>>
>>153015204

>Are there really that many grown men in Japan who tune in every week?
Like Naruto, there's enough to keep the show going. A show that's been going on for 10+ years doesn't need to break ratings. Just have enough ratings to keep sponsors on board. Naruto and Conan regularly dip down into the 5 point range. But apparently its enough for toothpaste and ramune commercials.
>>
>>153015204
Considering the series is actually much less violent now than when it started, I doubt the show switched its audience to adults.

Are you the same guy who always makes this joke every time Un-Go is mentioned or is it multiple anons?
>>
>>153016154
I haven't watched past episode 60 or so, so I wouldn't know. I remember there was a lot of blood and some really brutal murders in the beginning though. Did they tone it down? Is it like a sunday morning show now? Even then, the plots would be too contrived/complicated for 8-year-olds.

Kindaichi has some fucking great OPs and EDs.
>>
>>153016271
It's a meme you dip
>>
>>153016154
Eh, for Episode One they even decensored the fountain of blood actually
>>
>>153017115
And some solid mysteries and solutions as well. I really prefer Kindaichi's stories revolving around impossible crimes and locked room mysteries.
Conan cases can be anything, from theft to blackmail to murder, but a real lack of solid "howdunit" mystery.
>>
>>153017115
Joey's gotten old.
>>
How is Tantei Gakuen Q?
>>
>>153006641
Because crimes are no longer solved in a "entertaining way", even in cops shows (fictional of course) the plots are reused again and again and again, and there is just a limited way to make a murder interesting, it feels like watching the same episode
>>
>>153017780

10 years of NCIS being the most popular show on TV will do that to a genre.
>>
>>153017646
Tantei Gakuen Q is literally a plot-oriented Kindaichi with more gayness.
>>
>>153006641
Never good in the first place and the only reason you liked them as a kid is because you could easily go over all the obvious flaws and bad writing.
>>
>>153017861
Also the watson has photographic memory so there's less burden on the writer.
>>
Watch Mouryou no Hako, plebs.
>>
>>153006641
I thought Psycho Pass was a promising some crime solving anime but the story when to shit halfway on Season 1.
>>
>>153018015
>Expecting crime-solving story from Psycho Pass
It's already obvious which direction the show would take.
>>
>>153018015
I loved having a police procedural anime for once. But yeah, then it turned into a convoluted plot. It was nice having a criminal-of-the-week thing going on though.
>>
>>153018111

>I loved having a police procedural anime for once.
>for once
>>
>>153017979
Seriously, go watch it.
>>
>>153018465
Ooh, I'm gonna watch that now. Never heard of it.
>>
>>153018571

Its a show that makes western police procedurals look like shit. Not very good animation quality, but great self aware humor and parodies its own genre.
>>
>>153018571
There's Patlabor On Television too, which is basically just a You're Under Arrest clone but with some /m/ mixed into it
>>
>>153018111
>>153018089
I got Criminal Minds + CSI vibes from watching the first few episodes. They introduced that whitey as the villain way too early instead of using foreshadowing and giving subtle hint troughout the season.
>>
>Nobody watched Tantei Team KZ Jiken Note
>>
>>153006641
Because the crimes have gotten fucking stale.
>>
>>153019579

The crimes aren't stale, the formula is. When you can put any crime into the same stock formula, none of them will be interesting. Murder or rape is about the harshest crime you can come up with. But when there's a dozen different shows all focusing on murders at the same time, it loses its power. Just like the killing and rape in Game of Thrones lost its effect halfway through season 1.

What you need is a human connection to the action. But if every week the murder is being done to some random nameless one-shot character, then it has no impact. It becomes cliche.
