The way I have always seen it was the studio expected another 13 episode season and got told it was gonna be 12 at the last minute.

You come to accept that lots of anime adaptations are gonna die before getting to adapt all the material, but those at least try to give the viewer a semi satisfactory ending that wraps everything up that happened in the season, while also vaguely setting up the next season should it actually happen.

Remember we got quite a bit of setup for the fact that Sena literally masterbates to Yozora's bullying every night, and they never go anywhere with it past that point

I don't know how you think it ends, but she got the story to wrap up the main plot point - friendship - and ended the series the way it began, but this time all characters had grown or changed somewhat.

Most LN authors have trouble wrapping up series without resorting to drawn out drama. I liked that Yozora/Sena and Kodaka's final year at school wasn't drawn out over 6 novels.

And as someone who worked with the translators for later novels, I have no real problem with the story. If more anons read the whole thing rather than spoilers, they wouldn't necessarily have the same opinion as the japs who have bad taste anyway.
