Emi is not my waifu. But You are wrong about HMS. It is good series and best way to get into it is to read novels. It has good story and believable characters for the most part. And what I personally find appealing, that it has not self-insert main character (well, maybe Chiho, but she is not so important to the story anyway) On the other hand, anime twisted those characters and added some fillers, but it is still quite good.
