It was traditional isekai. Where it's not just escapism, but serves as a device for telling a story, and also deals with themes such as missing home and wanting to go back.
So it is isekai, but not the modern, trashy kind. (Although, I do think isekai tends to cheapen fantasy stories even in good shows)
