That's Dunbine. In anime, I mean.

Well it was the one that made me want to Jump in front of a moving truck at the tender age of 9. No matter how many Martial arts tournaments I had won, I would never be Goku and now I'll never find a Rem
Let me tell you about this really cool isekai called The Epic of Gilgamesh...

Have you heard about Jesus? After creating the whole universe God was living the NEET life when he suddenly fell from his realm in the heavens and got reborn as a human in the mortal world. He leveled up and got some mad skills but in the end was betrayed by one of his friends and died, he returned to his own world after that.

It's a fake isekai, only isekai in the literal sense. Sure, it has another world, but it lacks what people usually complain about. It is not an escapist fantasy, and it features proper plot. It also brings up themes like wanting to go home. It's a traditional isekai, not the modern isekai people complain about.

Yes, and also they only one since they actually have and adventure while reaching their goals, instead of using the time-slot for waifu pandering bullcrap.

>the only one
As a Magic Knight Rayearth fan, I am offended by this.
Escaflowne also features actual plot.

say hi, as do Escaflowne, Those Who Hunt Elves, El Hazard, Fushigi Yuugi, etc., etc. Isekai was popular as fuck in the 90s, actually much moreso than now by proportion.
There is also NG Knight Ramune & 40 and its sequels. I think, haven't seen them.

Guillver actually goes to Japan too, making this even more isekai than the others.

Alice in Wonderland is what comes to mind for me.
