Kek, I'm a C.C.fag but this argument doesn't have much value considering Lelouch freely admits in the Ragnarok connection episode that he's been switching between personas constantly. There is no real "him". Yet all his personas/mask are him. The Zero persona Karen fell in love with isn't any less of a construction than the lazy but smart student persona Shirley fell in love with.

I think the way she died was interesting in the sense it served to show how helpless Lelouch could get when faced with a situation not even geass could solve, and it nicely paved the way to Rolo's upcoming sacrifice.

I must be the only Shirleyfag who actually felt sad for Rolo later on. Poor kid was just a victim, not unlike her.

I'm pretty sure everything that happened after ep13 would have played quite differently if she never died. In a sense, she was the first trigger for Zero's Requiem.

I understand what you're saying, neither Lelouch nor Zero fully represented what Lelouch actually was, as separate entities. But as both parts together formed the actual Lelouch and Shirley was not only aware of it by the end but it also didn't put a dent to her feelings, I'd say what she felt for him was indeed genuine

Frankly who else beside C.C was really able to see Lelouch as a whole and 'get' him ? And C.C had the advantage of being both the trigger and having been there from the beginning. Shirley didn't.

Sure. I guess. I'm just not impressed and I don't feel hers is any stronger than CC's or Karen's love. I appreciate Karen's way of dealing with her feelings much more to be honest. She puts her values first and doesn't let her feelings for Lelouch cloud her judgement. She struggles with her feelings for him during the whole series but still ends up fighting against him because she doesn't agree with what he's trying to do. Compared to that Shirley just looks like she's lacking a backbone.

Kallen ended up as a shit tier slut willing to betray everything for Lelouch's sake if he wanted her by his side. Most of her dealing with him was through the mask of zero, and she only heard his fake persona from Nunnally (except maybe if she talked about how he was like when he was still a kid or whatever) when she was captured but still acted like she was experiencing the biggest love out there with him when it was nowhere near Shirley's.
