The novel went into the fact she wanted to get along with her parents who completely wanted nothing to do with her, so she adapted a persona fitting of a "good daughter" so they wouldn't just throw her into the orphanage.

Did you not remember the things Black Hanekawa said in Neko Black the first time she was introduced? That the weight of keeping up appearances. That people turned away from her the moment she dropped the mask and wasn't the perfect person they assumed she was.

That comes back in White when Hanekawa reminisced about the friends she had who abandoned her when they found out about her home life.

Hanekawa has a very relatable story, but I think some people forget key parts of the "why" and the significance of the letter at the end of White.

Kanbaru is significantly better than Gahara as a character, even if the anime makes her friendship with Araragi more one-sided on her part.
Nadeko's a lot better than Gahara too. More interesting character arc + she's likeable enough post-Hitagi End, though to be fair most people here haven't seen anything of that yet.
Ougi's an oddity, and it's later explained in Suruga Bonehead that the Hana Ougi is a connected but "different" version of her. Araragi's Ougi is 'female', she pretty much is supposed to be a spooky female kouhai that Araragi is unable to criticize.

The post chain you were replying to was about Kaiki being overrated, in response to people calling him the best character in the series. I don't think he's bad either, I genuinely don't think he's particularly better than almost anyone else in the cast though. His "look at me, I lie all the time even when there's no fucking reason to!" thing is nothing special in a series where everyone speaks in half-truths non-stop even when there's no reason to anyway. His biggest feats are outsmarting the dumbest girls in the series. Someone else has said it already but his backstory is pretty literally just Snape's.

As a character, I think it's reasonable to say that he is just okay.

Sorting out a few of the issues plaguing Araragi within the few seconds of being "slap chopped" and returned is just straight net gain for Araragi.

She's pretty much the easiest character to just outright ignore next to the sisters, what's the issue? Araragi spends all his time with other girls, Musubi pretty much formally makes it so that his relationship with her has no actual relevance to the plot at all anymore too since he travels from town to town solving oddity mysteries now. People were saying that she's only in four pages out of the entirety of the latest LN.
