Both Shounen and Shoujo romance in general is idealized, but thats what good about it. Harem and Ecchi genres dont really belong to this as well, since any romance in them is very rudimentar at best and its just given that all girls fall for MC and emotions play little role.

Also have to note there was time Harem was a God Tier genre, and that was during Rumiko Takahashi reign - Maison Ikkoku, Ranma, Lum Invader. Though there were not proper harem, but rather established most of the tropes that later LH and TM formed into a genre.

This is absolute bullshit. What's even a "very rare exception" for josei romance anime, when there are like five of them to begin with? The only ones I can think of right now are H&C, Nodame, Kuragehime, Natsuyuki Rendezvous, and Paradise Kiss, and all of those except Natsuyuki are quite good. I guess Gokusen and Chihayafuru also have major-ish romance sides, and those are both good (though Gokusen's romance is more mediocre). Meanwhile, shounen romance's recent masterpieces include Fuuka and the Jitsu Wa anime.
