Darkness's problem is that she has one joke and she's the only one who has any sort of motivation conducive to progressing the plot.

Aqua wants to go to heaven, but all she'd do in heaven is drink and screw around, so she only really cares about beating the Demon King by name only.

Megumin just wants to be the strongest wizard. This doesn't directly involve anything.

Darkness at least wants to protect her people from the threat of the demon king, and protects her party from themselves when they meet nobles (as they will eventually, what with them being both rich and demon king general killers). In fights, she's also the glue holding it all together.

That's why she'll never be a secondary character. She's really not that bad, her moments to shine just haven't happened yet because she just kept the Dullahan in one place for one general and did literally nothing against the Destroyer.

At best, I think it may be too early to determine. Usually seasonal waifus survive a good one or two seasons after their anime airs. Megumin has barely had enough time for that and ended up getting a S2 around her expiration date.

It really isn't just me nitpicking, rather it is just one thing among a lot of things that showed they never expected to go beyond one season for this series.

Despite being a comedy series, the story is actually really well woven together. Things aren't mentioned for no reason, and even the tiniest remark can, and has been a plot point later on. Such as Matsuragi's bitches talking about a Dragon Knight in one of the spin-offs, and Vanir's off-hand mention that Dust isn't using his real name. There are a bunch of others too.

While I do understand your point, it just really irritates me how something that simple was overlooked. The journal was something that was explicitly brought back up in volume 5, yet they couldn't do something as simple as have the writing be in Japanese. Hell, they could have even saved effort and not just shown it at all.

Not that anon, but actually there's a pretty decent amount of foreshadowing in the novels. So that's why in LN discussions we focus a lot on side comments and such. Because the author is pretty good at making those things relevant in a later book. This is why you'll occasionally see people theorizing about Kazuma's childhood friend and such too. Because it isn't like the author to mention such a thing so many times, without it being a thing.

Hence why people are pissed about the party swap, and Keele's dungeon not being in the first season. They fixed the latter, but the former is still something they could have at least done an OVA on; especially now that Dust is heavily implied to be more important of a character than we first thought.

I think I just have a problem since, from an animeonly perspective, someone might be under the impression they only did those things solely so that something else would be introduced. Keele's dungeon was a touching and humerous thing for LN readers in the early volumes. But with it's placement for the anime, it seems like it was done just so that there was an excuse for introducing Vanir into the story.

I just highly dislike things that, for lack of a better word, feel hamfisted like that. Same would be with Dust if that ever happens.

And I guess the thing with Dust is a pretty bad example considering we don't even know his role yet. So I'll definitely give you that.

I don't see how Aqua acted out of character at all, she does take her job as a goddess seriously a few times throughout the series. The purification of the lich seemed perfectly fine. There was nothing for the author to "learn from" since I doubt anyone but you really had a problem with it. In fact, this is the first time I've ever read someone disliking that scene.
