Since there's a new YGO movie releasing next month here in the west, I thought it would be cool to dump the original manga which the movie is based off of. For those of you who only ever watched the anime, I highly recommend reading the manga as it's much darker and better written than the anime was imo. There's also none of the fillers you have to deal with. Since the movie is releasing on Jan 27, 2017, I will dump one volume a day leading up to its release.
Today we continue Memory World in volume 37.

It could have been worse. Marshmallon in the manga doesn't have the real card effect which is once attacked while it is set, it inflicts 1000 damage to the opponent and can't be destroyed in battle. Here, it is just invincible against physical attacks, meaning it can be defeated by magician monsters.

I had to read this arc a few times but I think this is how it should work.
So, Hasan is the past life of Shadi like how Priest Seto is Kaiba's past life. So the modern-day Shadi is actually the reincarnation of Hasan, not Shada as one might assume.
I also think Shadi is Bobasa too but he's Shadi's "other self" like how Yugi is the other self to Atem and Bakura is the other self to Yami Bakura.
It also makes sense because Shadi's mission was to help Atem find peace in the afterlife and the only way to do that is get all millennium items to the stone tablet. Hasan is a part of Akhnamkhanen's soul who's Atem's father and was sealed in the stone tablet. It also explains why Shadi is standing next to the stone tablet after the ceremonial duel ends because his mission is now fulfilled.
I think it's something along those lines.

So it’s just been announced that Atem has been found so Aknadin is rightly freaking out because he thought he had it in the bag of Seto becoming King. He heads down to the prison cell with thoughts of killing Kisara so he can give his son the White Dragon.
Guard tells him that Seto ordered that she be moved and the guard can’t tell Aknadin where to. Poor guard gets stabbed for his trouble.
We then see Kisara looking out at the mess caused by Thief King Bakura crashing out of the palace and being chased by the others. She thinks that ‘the people and the town are being wounded’.
Next page is her thinking that ‘this calamity is perhaps….’ She then remembers what she was told about the ‘demon she is carrying within her own heart’ ie her ka (and way to give the girl a complex). So given her thoughts and memories she seems to be wondering if she herself caused what has happened (either physically or metaphorically as she is told a lot that she is bad luck). Guard tells her time is up and she has to return to her room. We then pan up to Seto watching and the next page is him watching some more before turning away.

We say he won because of luck because a chunk of Jounouichi's deck is literally luck based rolls of the dice. Rolling sixes with Graceful Dice or Skull Dice is something that could screw Atem over in a hurry if it happened at the wrong time. Same with a successful Time Wizard.
And it'd be pretty reasonable to not use the god cards. For starters, if they'd met in the BC quarter finals, Yugi would have only had Osiris, and at any point they might have met in BC, Yugi would not have Ra. So it wouldn't be unreasonable to pull a god card or two to simulate those conditions. Especially as using all three god cards in the same deck would likely mean the other monster cards in the deck would suffer due to the need for summon fodder. One god would be sufficient for most cases, and trying to get two up and running would be a chore. Then the god cards seem to be able to have some sort of impact on people, even when it isn't a shadow game. Yugi might not want to risk that in what's supposed to be a friendly duel.
All in all, there are some good reasons to think that Jounouichi didn't need to face all three god cards, and that luck may have played a significant role in him winning.

Now was the best time for that to happen with Arc-V flopping hard and DSOD raking in all the money. They could've made DM Super or something but they didn't because Kaz is literally done with the original series. Instead you get this guy for the next series. a new DM anime would be shit because of the anime need to focus on CARD GAMES, the manga was always story first, and as much as I love the card game, I just want to see the old characters, not so much the card game.
In fact, given the characters backgrounds, i wouldnt be surprised if in the future Yugi invents a game that becomes very popular.
And other games in the manga (the dice game, capsule mom) could easily support a new story with the old characters.
But yeah, i could give a shit about card games, I want to see EGYPT

thats because its a sequel to the manga and Kaz is based.
like i said, cards are okay, but a manga called "king of games" that started off being about a Pharoh's ghost possessing some Japanese kid and owning criminals and assholes at all sorts of various games has way more story potential and room to grow outside of one single card game.
The characters are what people love about the series, and i'm sure plenty of people would read it just on the strength of that.
but yeah its not like i'm "expecting" it.

Well, it's not like the series was doing anything else with him. Once Duelist Kingdom starts up, he basically becomes a random minion of Yugi's who happens to have a name. He just lacks any real role to play. Anzu at least gets to be the love interest and do one or two plot relevant things.
