I really don't know how it's going to match up. Seems like it's going to get breezed throguh because chapter counts mean it's probably like 10 chapters with 82 being an "everyone hangs out after the competition" chapter and then timeskip. It doesn't seem to have the same level of drama attached to it that standard has either (MCs, Rio's final competition, Miyadaiku and Kiyoto, Hirarin's debut, idol and Kiyoto's sister). That and it'd be hard to match the wild ride of the standard competition anyway.

Pretty much. Everything runs in relation to the MC so all characters are essentially there to service them and don't have much beyond their checklisted personality trait.

Compare that to this where it feels like each character or group of characters is important and has things going on that don't relate to Tsuchiya and Watari. Koujimachi and his partner for instance, as was mentioned. You know there's a story there, stuff that they've done before the tournament and stuff that they will do after the tournament. They got sixth place in the nationals so they're obviously good and have room to improve. There's enough there to make you go "I wouldn't mind seeing more of what their story is". Or look at Miyadaiku and his slow burn in learning to express himself through dance, something he had never considered. Do you want to see how his story continues and if he comes to recognize Kashiwa's potential feelings for him? You could easily get a Miyadaiku/Kashiwa-centric story from that. Now think of the supporting cast of your typical harem, do they have that same effect?

I like that the victory feels earned. It wasn't just "generic shonen power up". It took seeing the enthusiasm of his kouhais despite their awkwardness, the possibility of losing his best friend and realizing what that said about himself and the fact that this might be his last chance to beat his friend and rival to reawaken the true spark he had for dancing and give him the extra motivation needed to think outside the box and overcome his obstance.
