I still think it's dumb, but at least that's understandable if it's self-imposed.
It's not like the OS did anything special IIRC, it was just her other projects that she was working on that were important (like that memory/sense dive thing, I think). So I don't see why the other employees would agree to use her experimental thing. Unless they were all so enamored with her SUPER SMARTS that they did whatever she wanted, which is probably the case.

The entire lab was built for her because she was such a genius, they all came to work with her on her system, no one had to agree to anything.
