Think of bodyswapping as the ultimate form of connection and skinship. You couldn't be any closer to each other than this. Taki also has everything she yearned for, not being bound by tradition and birthplace. When judging from his environments, he isn't a bad person and has a good look.

Thanks to Taki, she:
- Got to experience city life in Tokyo, away from her backward town which she is tired of
- Got a gorgeous senpai
- Became cool in the eyes of her classmates
- Intimidated the bullies
- Had a cafe built for her, Tesshie and Saya-chin

Imagine someone you had not met face-to-face doing all these for you without asking for anything in return (except for following the rules, of which there were 5 iterations), and I think any girl would at the very least have some gratitude, if not feelings for him.

It was forced.
The whole virgin criticism against Shinkai was because Taki and Mitsuha fell in love through text alone, and it wasn't even affectionate texts either. The two just texted each other rules for each others bodies and complaints about petty shit, yet somehow the two fell completely in love with each other despite never seeing each other, never talking face to face, and never even getting to know the other as an individual on their own.
I enjoyed the film's visuals and music but I absolutely hated the love story within it.

the characters aren't developed, specifically taki because all the parts where that would happen in the film are played out over a 2 minute montage with an insert song
the manga/novel probably expands on this though this will probably annoy a lot of people anyway
