thats because up until ep 18 this was a destruction of the isekai genre. Every episode past 18 was Isekai, fuck Shounen, played straight.

Re zero is an anime that uses lots of cliffhangers and gives you information in small pieces hinting at the setting and what is going to happen to constantly keep you thinking about what's to come and does so better than most imo.

Evangelion teases some alien shit, and it seems some crazy shit goes down in the last episodes, but no way you will ever get there as there's barely anything else to keep you engaged on the way there. Had to give up at episode 15, and went for reading spoilers. Turned out it was just some retarded shit about instrumentality, that apparently makes everyone go "superdeep" "masterpiece" over it.

Re zero had some scenes as well that caused the same reaction, but the meat of the anime is not anything amazing. Neither did eva and in that regard they are pretty similar, but I much prefer re zero as it can actually keep me engaged.

Nope not with that fucking ending it wasn't. Re:Zero had potential but how anyone can look past that non-ending and still call it a decent anime, I'll never understand.
