How can one show be so immensely fun?

I tried watching the first episodes and couldn't stand it. It's like watching every single cliche it spawned from future shows all at once. Does it get more entertaining?

I'd say the first ten episdoes are a bit slow, show gets better after that.

Mendou and Aturo comedy is pretty good, and you notice how much of a cock hungry slut Shinobu really is after she jumps the ship.

The entire best thing abotu it was probably Beatiful dreamer which is a 10/10 movie.

I too gave it a fair shot and really couldnt get that into it.

It is basically anime: The sitcom. If you like shows like I Love Lucy and could watch those on Netlfix then this is for you. Otherwise it was designed to be something you could easily catch on t.v. and enjoy if you had nothing else to do.

The key to understanding this episode is regression of time. In every dream the mother is presented with a time frame earlier than the one that came before it. The first two are literal: An old woman, a middle-aged housewife. The remaining regressions are more psychological and surreal, once she realizes it is a dream she regresses to the mindset of a carefree hedonist, not unlike someone in their 20's just partying and living it up without a care. The next regression is a childlike story of absolute good vs. absolute evil in a war to save mankind. A more childish viewpoint that serves to be simplistic themes in cartoons and blockbuster movies. The final regression is to a child playing a child's game, and when she realizes that the child is herself, and she sees both herself, her youth, her fate and her whole life in perspective. She is the one behind her.

I seriously tear up whenever I see this episode.

I don't see how what you're saying even makes sense. The first 10 episodes aren't an accurate representation of the show at all.

Aside from the original content in later ones, there's also the issue that in the first 10 or so episodes the girls often don't reject Ataru and Lum often attacks other girls, something that heavily tonned down later, with almost all girls disliking Ataru and Lum mostly targeting Ataru himself when angry. There's also the Ataru vs Mendo stuff that only starts after the first 10 episodes and is one of the driving engines of the show.
