Why are the mysteries in this so dull?
Because you're dull. It only gives you as much as you're willing to put in.
because it's a show for kids
>>152426423
The mysteries aren't the focus, believe it or not.
It's not about the mysteries.
It's about the characters interacting with each other.
Because you have shit taste.
>>152426423
Because they are normal kids what do you want them to solve? Murder cases?
no, it's definitely the mysteriesmysterious autism
>>152426423
Because they're kids. Did you really expect them to solve murder cases or something?
>>152426558
>>152426569
Why can't they be like these other kids?
>>152426595
Don't be a baka

The only one that seemed meaningful was the uncle one.
Vol. 6 translations, when?
>>152426423
Watching most episodes felt like a chore to me. Good characters (Eru best girl and MC is my spirit animal), great visual style, but I found the story part extremely boring. There were a few fun episodes in terms of stories but that's about it. It was okay but I overhyped it quite a bit before watching it.
>>152426641
The uncle one was the most obviously meaningful one, but the other really good ones were the festival mystery, the valentines day mystery and the film mystery.
All of them have significant impact on characters (Satoshi's jealousy of Oreki, Oreki's overconfidence, Satoshi and Mayaka's relationship) using the mystery format.
Even most of the other ones have little character moments (the kimono had a bit about sibling relationships and Chitanda's desire for a sibling).
Because no stakes, and there's only so much that can happens in a fucking normal school filled with normal peoples.
Shit even Phantom World was better
I would completly regret having ever watched Hyouka if it wasn't for the queen.
>>152426558
Why do they overreact about everything? It's unbelievable.
Why was the teacher mad?
>>152426423
It's not. Acquire taste.
>>152428292
Honestly, the festival arc was mediocre, but the message of the arc was its all about envy.
They talk a lot about seven deadly sin in early episode, then they focus on specifically ENVY in festival arc.
The small things in the mysteries made it good honestly.
I liked this show. It was neat.
>>152426423
The mysteries themselves are actually really solid, but I felt the characters took them too seriously. It's tough to give as much of a shit about the mysteries as the characters do, so they come off as bad.
Chitanda is love.
Chitanda is life.
>>152426423
Sabuga fags will defend this because it's kyoani
>>152426423
Because the main focus of the show is not the mysteries, it's Zzzzzz

Hyouka is objectively shit, and when the first episode aired, /a/ hated it. However, a group of hipster faggots got together and decided to pretend it was good and loudly post about what a masterpiece it is, and they're still continuing this charade to this day.
You did not enjoy it.
You did not have fun watching it.
You were not engaged.
Hyouka is literally prescribed to treat childhood insomnia in Japan.
Japanese parents threaten their kids with Hyouka marathons rather than time outs.
On Valentines Day in Japan, girls give the boys they dislike Hyouka Blu-rays.
>>152426423
Because even those dull mysteries are more exciting than your, my, our dull and pointless life
>>152434438
"Okay".
>>152434438
Are you ok?
>>152434438
Well done for trying to convince me that I've misinterpreted my own opinion
>>152426423
I think the author knew he couldn't write decent mystery, so decided instead of doing sort of deconstruction of detective stories
>>152434438
litterally triggered
most of kyoanifags pretend to like it because it's kyoani.
Only decent arc were Movie and School festival
Still better than most of the other recent production of the studio
>>152434705
It's better than Hibike Euphonium, but that's not saying much.
Amaburi was better than it.
Chuunibyou was better than it.
Tamako was better than it.
>>152434755
>chuni was better
no
>tamako was better
no
At least in some episodes of Icecream something happened, those two other show were just wasting their time
>>152434839
Chuuni S1 is definitely better than Hyouka. Tamako Movieis also better.
>>152430657
The festival arc is one of the top 5 best written arcs in anime
>>152434914
Thanks Buzzfeed, go make a youtube video about it
>>152434607
Yeah, I bet he envies shows with good stories like oreimo and fate.
>>152434914
>I've seen 5 anime
>>152426641
If you mean meaningful for the characters, that's fine. If you mean meaningful for the series, you're super wrong. Mysteries like the movie arc and the helicopter mystery showed Oreki's weak and tender side, him getting manipulated and being too cocky, him being genuinely interested in other people's concerns and in understanding them. Mysteries like the uncle mystery, the finale, and the new year's episode show Chitanda's character, education, and the environment she grew up in. The valentine's episode and Kanya Festa developed Satoshi and Mayaka. Most of the mysteries in the show exist to show a side of the characters to the audience, to show how they respond to certain situations, and expose their way of thinking. Some others just fuel interaction like the school announcement one or the angry teacher one, and that interaction adds characterization.
Hyouka isn't about the mysteries, it's about the characters. The mysteries are just the way the characters are presented and developed. That's why the climax of the show wasn't the resolution of a mystery, but the getting closer of Chitanda and Oreki.

Isn't tumblr normally where you go to have people tell you what you feel?
>>152434347
Most beautiful girl in anime.
>>152426423
The focus is more on the characters than the mystery. The author's other mystery novels are more mystery-centric, if that makes any sense.
Ugh, do people really think like this?
God, this is the reason why every single Ace Attorney case is a murder mystery.
>>152436991
Ugh, I mean, I know, right gurlllll?
>>152437043
Bet you think you're real cute, huh? Typing away at your keyboard, each keystroke contributing to your little sarcastic comments.
>>152437175
I think he's cute.
>>152434438
People fall for this.
>>152437485
Do they?
Chitanda is cute.
>>152439212
Not as cute as you.
>>152439212
I think so too
>>152439212
She's so cute it hurts.
And her friend is alright.
>tfw no chitanda gf
>>152434755
Hibike is better than all of them
Because you obviously have shit taste, OP.
You have ADD
>>152426423
Because high school is dull

>>152434438
>i-it's about the characters!!
Well that would be cool if the characters weren't dogshit.
>"I'm a database!"
>"Energy conservation."
Repeated unironically multiple times for episode
>>152446788
Repeated so many times for you and you still didn't get the significance.
You must be extra stupid, I feel sorry for you.
>>152447814
The significance is clear.
The problem is that they're poorly written, unrealistic, LN-tier dialogue.
>>152426423
The mysteries weren't that bad, but the edginess was unbearable.
>I'm directing!
>>152448215
There no edginess.
>>152447908
>high school nerd and smartass talk like high school nerd and smartass
oh my how unrealistic
Scooby doo has higher stakes in its cases, this is blues clues tier shit.
>>152448914
Did you attend a school for special needs children?
Not even teenagers talk like that outside of cringy japanese LNs. The dialogue and characterization in this series are a joke.
>>152448914
They don't. They talk like some douchey adult thinks a high schooler talks like.
>>152449109
>>152449346
I bet you're the kind of idiot that doesn't like Uchouten Kazoku because the characters act "too illogically". Ridiculous.
>>152449386
>I bet you're...
You want to try again with a real argument?
>>152449386
No, Uchouten Kozoku is an actually good character drama, unlike Hyouka.
And the situations are nothing alike since Hyouka is supposed to take place in reality and not in a fantasy world where creatures of the folklore live alongside humans.
>>152426423
Getting pretty tired with every Hyouka thread being a shitpost magnet.
