Reason why i love Handshakers.

Take an exaple of Flip Flappers last season - its a typical example of tryhard anime trying to be and look original, standing out. Like a hipster who read few lines of popular poetry and bought fashion magazine, trying forcefully to create own image: while ultimately falling into the narrative and cliches, and look of mainstream in every aspect.

Meanwhile Handshakers is VAPORWARE. VAPOREWARE genre was created to riddicule consumerism and egocentric hedonistic society, yet it backfired and it turned into glorifying it.

Same with Handshakers. It doesnt "try to be". Its the ultimate consumer product gloryfying decadence and consumerism. Its a flashy AMV with flaunting with rich effects, graphics, camera work - looking like TV advertisemt for some product. Vulgar, mismatched, show off, tasteless and full of chemical food addictants making you want more and your teeth turn black. It is not sublte, not deep, not symbolic - its just turning all valves on commercial product to a degree where it becomes more than just that - it becomes art.

Handshakers is AOTY.

Mostly love effort put into it and artistic direction. The second being actual emotional relation to the characters - despite them all having very little screen time, can already feel for MC and his doll, the loli boss pair with her underling, MCs parents, Kaicho and her apparent brother. Interested to learn more about the Chain guys, particularly relation of the girl to the edgy chuni and their motivations.

Rare show makes me actually that INTERESTED to learn more of its characters. The plot meanwhile is kinda irrelevant.

Overall it reminds me of X Japan, where i could relate and be interested in characters as well. Most other "battle royals" leave me entirely cold.

Many other shows just aren't appealing, Hand Shakers is good enough in comparison to other shows.

While the storyline isn't groundbreaking, and you may consider it chuuni, it is good enough for me.

As said, pointless question. I enjoyed plenty of shows with horrible production values, but it is wrong to try to separate anime into different pieces - its a complex media consisting of multiple parts and all being equally important: story, visuals, direction, soundtrack, characters.

Generally good direction > story > characters > visuals > soundtrack. I can watch bad story with bad characters as long director is superb, can withstand bad looking show if interested in the story. Generally however if its just good visuals/soundtrack, but i dont like characters or story or direction its not worth for me.

Tazuna is actually Tazuna`s sister. When Koyori died, Tazuna sacraficed himself to switch souls with her - thus Koyori soul occupied Tazuna`s body while Tazuna`s soul became locked in Ziggurat.

However Koyori`s soul feels that something is wrong with her being, memories and the world in general so feels the urge to find and "fix" it.

You have amazing shots while 2D characters are glitching out, highly detailed art, that got placed on the background like shit.

After watching this ep I feel that this show is a poor man's Guilty Crown. Would have been better if it came out in 2012 without the CGI bullshit.

Still, it ranks pretty high this season for me. I'm just a sucker for this type of chunni shit where people are manifesting giant glowing swords from thin air and getting power-ups with a nice OST playing in the background. At the moment most people think of it as ironic meme and base impression entirely on unusual to them visuals of episode one, but as the season progresses it`ll become evident its one of the better shows this season simply for a reason it actually has good production values, story to look forward to and nice characters.
