You don't seem to understand Griffith's character. He never considered Guts as equal or a friend, he simply saw him as a tool, a toy, a useful, nice and very fun toy to play with. He got upset when Gutts left because he wouldn't be able use him anymore and because he felt like he didn't had control over him anymore.
