What's the outrage? I still don't get it. He went back into time to save his mother first and foremost, and in order to do so, he had to save Kayo which would prevent the events that would lead to his mother's death. Whether he developed "romantic" feelings for Kayo along the way is irrelevant. In the end, he saved his mother, his friends, got an actual career, and to top it off he gets with best girl aka Pizza-chan.
