Well I decided to watch the original Devilman series from 1972 because I wanted to watch the later OVAs ect.. I felt some episodes were kind of a hassle due to the 1972 villain of the week storytelling but I really enjoyed the show. It was aimed for kids but It had really graphic imagery, beheadings, people committing suicide by jumping from building, blood, eyes being ripped out, and even a little bit of nudity. Even the story was fucked up. Devilman kills Akira and his parents, steals his body, and lives his life tricking his bestfriend/lover he is him yet he's suppose the good guy.

After watching all 39 episodes I watched the Devilman/Mazinger Z crossover. It was shit. Had really high quality animation for the time especially compared to the series but the special was one sided. It was mostly about Mazinger Z and he got most of the spotlight which annoyed me. Devilman really took the backseat for this one.

Then I watched the 2 OVAs and was really disappointed. After 39 episodes I felt these reboot OVAs were lackluster. I didn't like how he became Devilman in this one and I had no fucking clue who that Blond hair guy was since he wasn't in the Original series. Devilman doesnt even show up until the last 5 mins of the OVA. The 2nd one was better. More action, more Devilman.

Then I watched the 90's Devil Lady series. It was very bland and boring. I expected it to be great but all characters and no personality and it never got as weird as I wanted it to be.

Then I watched the 2000 Amon Devilman PPV special and it was brutal. My biggest complaint about Devilman is that it never got as violent and weird as I wanted it to go but this special gave me what I wanted... and I didn't like it. All these characters you've watched since the 1st series getting brutally murdered. Little girls getting their stomachs eaten while they're still alive. It was fucked up and it turned me off. Glad they went for it though.

Finally I saw the recent Cyborg 009/Devilman crossover. I really enjoyed it since I love both series. it was especially cool since before this Production IG ruined Cyborg 009 with that garbage CGI film, but this crossover was all beautiful 2D. Great action and they stayed true to the characters. It was just overall fun.


Never read the manga but I hear it's pretty great. Maybe at some point i'll read it. I'm sure alll these shows can't compare to it.

Devilman lady manga is trash, has way too much villain of the week material and a god awful ending

Devilman: The birth was a little boring considering they kept most of the dialogue and I had read the manga much faster, but still decent.

Devilman: The demon bird was a pretty fun action ova.

I like the anime and I love the manga. I like original Devilman too but it's normalfag tier by Nagai's standards. It has your typical fujoshi romance that women like and a typical depressing story that's good, but by today's standards, it's not as great as it was back then.

Devilman Lady is free form storytelling. It makes you disgusted with yourself, it makes you horny, it makes you sad, it makes you happy, it makes you weird and confused.

The range of emotions I got from reading Lady surpassed the theft of the original. I hated the ending as well, but after letting it simmer down, it was actually a hilarious appropriate ending to a sex craved manga.

i just like Devilman in general both ironically and unironically. That's why it's perfect. You can both hate and love it at the same time.
