Time to reflect

2011 wasn't really a great year.
Best anime of the 10s in my opinion is The Wind Rises. I'd accept that or Kaguya, I don't think anything else even comes close.

Measuring quality of years against each other is tricky, because there is no one way to do it, it depends a bit on what you value. If what you care about is quantity of watchable content, things that can entertain you, but you don't care about quality beyond that, you may find 2016 to be a way better year than 1998. But if you find the quality of the year to increase by number of masterpieces, 1998 will be the better year.

I think a number of good anime is necessary, one masterpiece is never enough to make a year good, no matter how good it is, but the year also needs some anime that stand above other anime to stand out, a year with 20 masterpieces is better than a year with 200 watchable LN adaptations.
But there will be disagreements between people on exactly how to balance these aspects against each other.

So we know 1998 and 2007 are some of the best years ever. We can probably also add in 2003 as a really strong year. But where does 2011 fall?

It really has a lot of good anime, a great number of the '10s defining anime aired that year, and some hidden gems as well.

I think it was good. The visuals were great, and very interesting plot.
It may objectively be weak, with the so I hear shallow characters and the literal exposition machine, but the interesting plot and good execution more than made up for it, and I didn't really think much about it while I was watching.

True, I did like the visual style. But the plot, while it had interesting parts, was overall a disjointed mess, which wouldn't have even been a terrible thing if all the character development was off-screen during timeskips. That's what really bothered me.

Either Ping Pong the animation, Space dandy, or Tatami Galaxy. There are many honorable mentions though.

One of my top anime from the time 07-17 is Kimi ni Todoke.
But K-On is probably the absolutely best one. I cry every time I see someone mentioning the more emotional episodes.
