i think it has more to do with otakushit being generally terrible at writing but decent at coming up with interesting premises.

and with the incentive structure of manga/LNs being mostly about hooking readers with the premise, or hooking your editor with the premise so they will serialize you. success in these mediums is driven by a good premise more than good writing.

Came here to post this. This show really pissed me off with how shit it quickly became and how good it started off. They should of kept it as an action oriented show and had the older sister as the main character instead of the incredibly boring moeshit it turned into.
