static defense war with a mobile "heavy cavalry" as mop up is literally the only way for a large empire to retain undefendable frontiers
If you don't do that you allow invaders to threaten your industrial capacity, which the show explained
If you want to complain about something complain about being central Europe fighting the world

Most likely. In the defensive battles of WW1 that Germany fought in, like Verdun, the majority of their losses came from counter-attacking trenches. Would still make more sense to just hold the current trench if you're that depleted of manpower.

Also, someone mentioned in another thread the war is in 1924. When can I get to see some tanks, armored cars, flamethrowers, bombers, airplanes, mobile infantry, assault squads, and other cool shit?
Looking forward to future episodes.

Given they're all using pre-1915 uniforms, you can probably assume that they haven't been invented yet. Mages who can fire artillery shells from rifles with pinpoint accuracy probably make tanks and armored cars irrelevant anyhow.
>>
>>152025369
Looks like some kind of loli battle machine
>>
>>152025318
Yes, but after being pushed back they'd have to slog through the same trench lines they spent the last few months pushing through.
>>
>>152025369

Then again if mages are rare and in short supply it makes sense they'd try to strengthen their normal troops to compensate for when they don't have mages to rely on.

Wasn't the point of the German war plan to avoid a situation where they had to fight a war on multiple fronts, hens the part where they tried to outflank France ASAP before Russia can bring its full power to bear.

Obviously a situation where they have already been attacked on all sides simultaneously will need a different approach.

>>152025369
Well, you could say that anything not as powerful as a mage is now obsolete. Mages are rare and expensive, and the majority of the fighting is still done through trench warfare. It would make sense to invest in technologies that would give you the advantage there.

Also the Germans are completely fucked, especially if this is a war of attrition. Theyre fighting like a 7 front war against the nordic countries, britain, france, russia, eastern europe, and who knows what else. Even if they conscript most of their population i'd give them a year or two tops.

It was. If anything this mobile force should be destroying nations and going on the offensive rather than just being passed around on 7 fronts and shoring up defenses. The Kaiser should be embarrassed.
>>

>>

I feel like this description of the war situation is different from the LN. I thought that at the beginning of the story the empire had been invaded by just one of their neighbors and were fighting defensively against that. I mean I assumed it would eventually explode into a world war but not as early as this.

>>
>>152026051
>More people died from rot, starvation, and dysentery in the trenches than from actual combat.
No they weren't.
As dirty and unhygienic as the trenches were, sanitation and health practices were in place; soldiers were regularly rotated out (iirc only one week out of every month was spent in the firing line), deloused and trenches cleared of rats, and they ate relatively clean (if not particularly savory) canned foods. Only about 1/3 deaths were from disease and injury, and only a fraction of that third was from diseases rather than dying from wounds.

Germany was lucky to have some brilliant generals especially ones like Heinz Guderian who knew that tanks were going to be the new future of warfare.

That's the problem. You can't identify or really understand a character like this, it still feels weird to me. I'd rather have lolis in more colorful stuff or comedy, but I don't see the point in having one here (well of course I see how this would sell but...), why not just have adults directly then? Plus anime actually lacks strong women characters (I'm getting odl so I'm watching less stuff but the last I remember were Balsa from Seirei and Hamyuts from Bantorra)

Anyways it's still fun and beautiful, but yeah.

schlieffen plan was not used in WWII, it was planned but fell into allied hands and was abandoned resulting in the germans attacking slightly to the south through heavy forest.

In WWI the schlieffen plan actually hurt Germany because violating Belgian neutrality ensured British involvement in the war, or at least hastened it.

I'm aware that the schlieffen plan (WWI Ver.) wasn't used, but the same concept remained, that being invading through belgium and avoiding the highly fortified French-German border.

Germany could have won the war with static defense in the west, mainly because the French strategy was just to attack everywhere and they would have taken massive losses. Also, Britain would have probably delayed entry into the war if Belgium wasnt invaded. They still would have had to attack in the East though or eventually by 1916 or so the Entente and allies would have massive industrial advantage and just grind down Germany and her allies.

I feel like if this show could get 1 hour special then LNfags(at least most of them) would feel a lot better, though of course, Kadokawa would rather save money as hard as they can.

Is that the British army they use to murder colonials and keep them in line?

Episode 2 will be "different angle".
And according to
https://www.tsubuani.com/anime/6021/2
The name of episode 2 title will be "プロローグ(prologue)".
So yeah i think LNfags know what it means right.
>>
>>152038649
Just play HOI and you'll get most of the LN.
>>
>>152038649
Only Vol.1 so far.

>>152038584
Dman that's THICC. What does the author put in there?.
I watched the entire season and still don't understand shit about that show beside boobies. I guess that explains why the book is so thick.
>>
>>152038702
But HoI is basically map painting and I can make the whole world nazi in a few months.
>>
>>152038752
No? The fun part of HoI is logistics and doctrines.
>>
>>152038741
The volumes are so big that the author splits them, some of them having three parts per volume.
>>

Technically, it was a mixture of about 250k regulars whose job was to police the Empire and fought in conflicts like the Boer War, and 150k Territorial forces who were supposed to guard the Isles.

Only if you have a grand total of 20 minutes in grand strategy games.

Yeah, there is this as well.
>>
>>152038798
Not really. More like how to capitulate France with a single airdrop in Paris, or how the US is still fucking landing after 10M casualty. Both are in the LN.
>>
>>152038834
Ahhh thanks. The regulars were the British equivalent of French Foreign Legion then.

>Rommel
Meme commander control freak with obsession into micro management. He did pretty good with limited resources and got some good press. He had the same kind of magical touch to his forces like Wellington. Both of them seemed to be in many places at the same time. Rommel was a fucking hack and beat his head into a wall when besieging Tobruk and pointlessly wasted the lives of his men. Whenever he couldn't manouver he got frustrated and started fucking up. Fucking overrated general if there ever was one. Mannstein and Guderian at least controlled dozens of divisions in the eastern front.

Darkest Hour is still my favorite HoI experience, even though it's just a juiced up HoI 2. It's got Kaiserreich though, which is a big plus in my view.
>>
>>152025274
Ok i've seen this a few times and it confuses me still.

Firstly it wasn't reinhard that he was fighting, secondly it didn't destroy the enemy fleet, and thirdly the entire point of that was to force a stalemate and create an opening for yang to retreat his own fleet from a pointless battle

Yeah that plan is pretty fucking bad.
>encircled on all sides
>pressure from all sides
>blockaded from imports
>only a single mobile reserve force
>static defensive war relying on no enemy flanking manoeuvre

Literally a single breakthrough on any one of what looks like 3-4 fronts and the entire strategy would be defeated.

Yeah that's why General Staff literally said the plan failed.

>what is the maginot line
You don't actually need to take the fortification. If you outflank it, it literally becomes a siege, keeping the enemy forces bottled up while you cut up there back lines.

Guess what both the Allies and the Central Powers thought for literally 4 years of brutal mechanistic warfare?

>>152042545
>You don't actually need to take the fortification. If you outflank it, it literally becomes a siege, keeping the enemy forces bottled up while you cut up there back lines.

Well since this is basically not!WW1, I'd assume the trenches and fortifications run the whole length of the line, thus no flanking.
>>
>>152030560
Nice bait
>>
>>152042655
It's clearly Germany and Austria-Hungray rolled into one Empire
>gutter-crown
And fuck you.
>>
>>152042899
I was just giving an example of outflanked fortification. If you want an actual WW1 example, the Hindenburg Line would be one.

>>152042944
Germany's strategy in WW1 was to go on the offensive, not the defensive, because OKD knew that in the a long war it would be defeated. This worlds Not!Germany for some reason believes a defensive war would work, even though it still leaves the problem of being defeated in the long run.

>the whole length of the line
That's not even possible. Switzerland was never contested by either side partially because the front it would create would mean neither side had the manpower to man both sides. Unless this Not!Germany has like 3x the population that our Kaiser Germany had.
>>
>>152025076

>Would that be the plan to continue with total slaughter until everyone's dead except Field Marshal Haig, Lady Haig and their tortoise, Alan?

>>152043050
I don't remember the Siegfriedlinie being flanked, wasn't it broken through shortly before the end of the war?

Vol. 5:
>Yeah, Tanya noticed that I was not bad and took another cup to drink more coffee.
>"... ... I got it, this guy was a little out of touch"
>One word that muttered only as it was careless enough to gather attention in the headquarters. It may not have been the words the commander should spill during battle.
>"Colonel?"
>"Lieutenant Serebryakov, you should have another cup of coffee before this sortie, so we can arrange coffee after the end of the war."
>In answering the question, Tanya turned over to the coffee cup and finished it, and showed what she thought.
>"Hahahahahah, it is about Colonel's pleasure to use Lieutenant in chin!"
>In the headquarters staff members laughing out that they can not stand it, Tanya points out the fact that it is no wonder why.
>"I do not mind ... It is a relationship I have been with since I was a line fighter. Coffee is the best thing she will brew, it will be best to ask a good customer."
>"If Colonel is a strong soldier in this, it is the confession of love itself"
>"Well, so much for coffee .... It is not my intention to marry ... I still want to enjoy the free rank of a single aristocrat"
>For the moment Tanya does not have a plan to sign a social contract to give up freedom. Or whether to run to spiritual homosexuality or physical homosexuality, in a way this dilemma will be rare. It is this thing that it seems better not to think too deeply.
>Thus, with respect to propositions that cannot reach a conclusion even with consideration at the moment, Tanya should stop thinking just as the old saying that it must silence.
>>
>>152043252
>Colonel
Will she become a field marshal by the last volume?

>>
>>152043215
It was taken in two different places, effectively outflanked.

Then the war ended, but if it had carried on for like 2-3 weeks you'd have seen a Magiont style collapse on the Germany army
>>
>>152043050
>>152037600
While the Germans envisioned an offensive war in the onset, they didn't actually stick by that strategy much after 1914. In 1914 the goal was a quick offensive to disable France so that focus could be placed on Russia. Of course, the Marne changed that, and after the race to the sea it became apparent that a quick offensive was no longer possible.

Through 1915 and 1916 Germany's strategy in the western front was primarily defensive, to exact a sufficient cost in men that French national sentiment would collapse. Even Verdun, as an offensive, represented that same mentality, and was never intended to be a breakthrough operation. Regardless, the Somme and Brusilov both forced Germany back onto the defensive, and it remained so well until the collapse of Russia and the desperate spring offensive in 1918, which lasted less than half a year before they were left no choice but to fall back to the defensive in the face of the Hundred Days.

tl;dr regardless of Germany's original offensive plans, the German strategy on the Western Front was primarily static defense, and it didn't work.

In vol.4 I thought Tanya was just building something of a Kampfgruppe, but apparently it's meant to be even more modern, like a Regimental Combat Team.
