I thought that at first but actually I think it was a genius move on Pythie's part. She knew Pukin was dangerous and uncontrollable. She was just lying to Tot Pop when she suggested otherwise in my opinion. She might have even expected that Pukin would kill her gang.

But I realized afterwards that, although it didn't seem like Pythie had a good reason to release Pukin and even if it actually seemed like everything blew up in her face, it was actually a master stroke by Pythie.

Because what she created was a distraction.

The LoM wasn't just going to let Pythie roam free after she broke out of prison. They would have hunted her down. By freeing Pukin she created a much bigger mess to throw the entire LoM into disarray.

It allowed Pythie to disappear back into the shadows before anyone knew what was going on.

Pythie claimed to have regretted her actions and that the whole situation was a disaster, but there's a lot of unreliable narration in this series and I don't actually think we can trust Pythie here.

Pfle is the keikaku master but Pythie is the master of shrewdness. She may not be able to craft mindboggingly elaborate plans like Pfle but what she lacks in pure genius she makes up for in single-minded focus on her primary goals at all costs.

That's what makes her so dangerous.

She said herself that she has to fight like someone with nothing to lose and the reason she can do that is because her own twisted goals are the only thing that matter to her.

I think she realized that in this situation she had to make good on her escape at all costs or she might not get a second chance.

And that's exactly what she did.

Here is the thing, Pukin WAS Pythie's miscalculation. There's no doubt about it, because the "unreliable narration" doesn't fit in the context (she wasn't lying, she was doing reflection with her own self, and there's no half-truth either). If given a chance to do it all over again, Pythie would definitely chose a different partner than Pukin. She lost Tot Pop and nearly her own life.

However, that does not mean the entire event was a total loss for Pythie. From the start, she didn't mean to just use Pukin for 1) killing the assassin. There were multiple additional goals: 2) making LoM focus on the huge beast like Pupin after everything was over, 3) creating a powerful ally for future use, 4) revenge on the jailers because they'll surely be fired for letting Pukin escape. Which meant that 3 out of 4 objectives had been met.

What that means is that it's retarded to simplify the entire event into "Pythie failed" or "Pfle just got lucky." These girls are extremely clever, they never just aim for one purpose. Their actions are like chess move that is meant to kill several birds at once, thus even a miscalculation will still yield some percent of success.

First of all, how could anyone as sharp as Pythie possibly think a monster like Pukin is ever "under control". I don't think she is that stupid even if she probably is that arrogant.

But more importantly, how does killing the assassin actually benefit Pythie? It's really more cleaning up Pfle's loose ends. And does Pythie really need to be in Pfle's graces that badly? Does she even trust Pfle at all?

That's why I think covering her escape was actually Pythie's primary goal and why I think she knew Pukin would make a mess. Not such an enormous costly, dangerous, mess but a mess nonetheless.

I think she was depending on that mess to hide from the LoM.

I mean Hana might have been hunting Pythie next if she'd survived. Perhaps killing Examination department officials to hamstring them was also part of her plan.

Just finished JOKERS and is was by far the best in this series.
But it makes me wonders, what would have happened if the freelancers would have managed to capture the elements back in the very beginning? For one thing, Grim Heart would not have been caught doing anything illegal, so she'd still be in power and Pfle would be screwed. On the other hand, the project would still be public so Grim Heart would have been very pissed, too. None of the bigshots win, so none of them wanted that outcome.
Kinda surprised by SG contacting SW but it's her form of caring, probably. But what were those pills about? Memories as medicine? Has this appeared before and I forgot it? I remember one of the Lapises being able to transfer memories, but there was nothing about pills.
Also, asking SW to kill her was cowardly of SG. If she is truely convinced that her death is required to help Pfle then she should do the deed herself instead of pushing it on others.
Anyway, last book's trend continues and everything's very political now.

GH is the reincarnation Osk, one of one of the Three Sages. The Osk faction is a political/military/corporate organization that has thousands of magical girls working for it. So it won't save Pfle even if GH dies.

Also, since a person on Discord managed to catch this reference, how many people caught that Quake's Mecha Shonen manga, Super Knight Raidman, is actually based on an MG/Mecha Anime, Magic Knight Rayearth?

Everything Quake, Inferno, and Sho stated are things that fans of the show, non-fans of the show, and manga-only readers have said about the series.

...Which means somewhere out there there's PROBABLY a MG with a Mecha as a power somewhere...

I was talking to TL-kun and I realised that Pythie's keikaku is smaller in scope (she just wants to create the ideal MG vs reform the LOM) but no less impressive.

Pythie knows SW was coming into contact with Puk.
Pythie needs to harden her up against Pucking.
Pythie may end up looking directly at Puck when she observes SW (not doing so is out of the question).

From this point of view, having Rippuru kill Sachiko accomplished multiple goals at once.

1: Sachiko dies; it sets Puck's plans back.
1a: it scores points with Caspar and Osk, useful because she's a rogue.

2: It forces SW to be jaded, possibly hardening her against Puck.
2a: if it forces SW to arrest Rippuru and gets her away from Puck, so much the better.

3: She avenges herself on Rippuru.

4: She frees up Pukin Rapier capacity to harden herself up.

Now, it wasn't perfect, but Pythie is Pfle-tier when it comes to making the best out of a bad situation.
