It was mentioned in one of the Tank Q&As that Satan's tail itself is composed of Blue Flame, and exposition about Shima declares the "God Flame" to be the most powerful among demons. So it's possible that Rin, with his free use of it, is perhaps a "Successor" or "Heir"?

Yeah. The place they chose to dive right in felt like a bad choice. I wish they'd pulled it back a bit to just after Rin's fight with Amaimon, and the meeting with the Grigori. Rin's return to his classmates before Shura drags him off to start the candle training would have made for a better establishing scene.

I also didn't like that they cut the part where Mephisto sneaks into the class and announces the Kyoto trip, and the natives reaction to it. Bon's especially.
