If you saw the trailer for Saga of Tanya the Evil and thought “hey that looks like a bunch of military fetishism with an uncomfortable German Imperial sheen” you're right, and that's what the show is. Tanya, a bug-eyed, duck-lipped Lolita is presented as a fearsome, malevolent badass murdering people in the name of a generic fascist government (chock-a-block with dragon symbols, naturally) beset on all sides by enemies to slaughter, clad in a slightly redesigned German WWI uniform. The way this whole episode is written – literally the whole thing, there's no other story movement - you're supposed to cower in awe the entire time and imagine just how evil and ruthless Tanya can get. Honestly, it's probably a combination of that and even then, hardcore militart/history stuff tends to be a niche market anyways. The Isekai stuff was just slapped on to raise sales and they didn't even bother with that in the first ep, instead choosing to start the show with a teaser from a little later on in the story without any of the context that makes the scenes make sense for anyone who hadn't read anything about it yet. I know nothing about the LN and I don't care about the manga. I really liked the first episode and I don't see the issue with it. It's a unique art style. Nothing wrong with that. The only truly upset people are the novelfags, and that's okay because they don't matter.

Anyway, show seems to be good. I'm hoping to see more explosions, death, and the depth of Tanya's twisted personality. The only thing that doesn't click with me is that some little girl is commanding around grown men, regardless of what she truly is.
