In spite of his lack of fights he stood out quite a bit to me. I think it was his harsh and outspoken nature, he was much more likely to pipe up than characters like Fugo or Giorno were. And it was nice seeing someone who wasn't kissing Giorno's ass all the time too.

Him being an untrusting jackass to Giorno makes more sense if you consider Araki's original plan of making Fugo a traitor. Abbacchio would've been proven entirely correct about how they couldn't afford to trust everyone, he'd just have been wrong about who it was.

Avdol and Kakyoin didn't have personalities, Iggy didn't even appear until the very end. Literally everyone in Part 5 got a decent amount of screentime and has a pretty clear-cut character (even Trish, who existed just to be a plot device then turned out to be a well-written female character). Both crews have nothing on Josuke, Broichi, Brokuyasu and Brohan of course. Hell Yuya alone wins it all for me.

Pucci didn't want to reshape the world to DIO's image he just liked DIO's idea of fate and wanted to use it to absolve himself of guilt in getting his sister killed. DIO's world was going to be him above fate ruling mankind, while Pucci piggybacked off of his idea and used it to enforce fate on everyone else because the idea of being able to change it meant his sister dying was partially his fault. Pucci is actually interesting because he used DIO as much as DIO used him, but despite that their friendship was still genuine and they did both care about each other. Pucci was just too hung up on his past to fully embrace DIO's plan so he changed it to fit his own agenda.

You're given this weird-ass first impression of her, where she uses Fugo's top as a towel, and you go "damn she's gonna be the generic snooty princess chick they have to protect", and then it's shown in other things like "I GOTTA PEE HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO PEE IN THIS TURTLE"

But then the King Crimson arc approaches and she's not the typical snooty chick. She's totally uncomfortable about seeing her 21st Century Shitty Dad but tries to pass off her fear as something else because she doesn't want to admit to being scared. It isn't until Buccellati talks to her that she shows this more vulnerable side of herself to him. She expresses her fear of the unknown to Bucc only, and shows she's just afraid of this family she's never met and the possibility that they just might not care about her. The arc ends and while everyone's going "geez i cant believe trish's dad wanted to kill her", Trish is clearly distraught about knowing, but as Abbacchio says, she's a lot ballsier than everyone took her for. She was willing to divulge details about her father because she was so determined to figure out more about her past and where she came from. Naturally, this extends into Notorious B.I.G., where her strength and her personal drive deep down (as well as the extra push from seeing Giorno literally throw his arms away for the team) led to her developing a Stand, and her strength renews itself since at the beginning of her encounter with it, she was doubtful as to why she was even messing around and trying to help in the first place.

Lastly, in SCR she intercepts one of Diavolo's attacks and states that she's no longer running away from him. She has no more doubts, she's no longer afraid, and she has the answers she wanted. She says she has also 'conquered her past' and will chase Diavolo for as long as he continues to take action.

Overall, I don't think that's bad at all for a plot device character with a minimal amount of screentime.

Eh, I get all of what you're saying but I think (as you said yourself) you're judging her as a -female- character instead of judging her as a character. Characters like Jolyne or Hot Pants or whatever are interesting and fun regardless of their gender, whereas Trish gets praised just for showing an iota of depth even though she's completely outshadowed by her male companions. Even the minor villains often left a bigger impression than she ever did.

I agree with you on the whole, don't get me wrong, but it feels bad that standards for 'acceptable female characters' are so low a lot of the time compared to standards for 'acceptable characters.'

It's mentioned somewhere that D4C is unique to the heart and anyone who finds the heart would get D4C, not just Valentine. In one of the alternate universes Valentine and someone else goes to it's implied that the Valentine there had his own Stand that wasn't D4C because Johnny from that universe screamed that under no circumstances should you get within 5 feet of him, implying his ability only affects that range but then that Valentine gets D4C swapped to him and goes to the main universe.

Araki loves his villains, though (just listen to him talk about Kira or Dio). And both DIO and D'Arby, for as horrible as they are and for as villanous as they act, are given charismatic personalities with traits that the readers can have fun watching. They are likeable villains.
Vanilla Ice does not have a single sympathetic or likeable element to him and he's worse than all of DIO's minions in his machine-like obsession for DIO. Vanilla is a character Araki created to be complete scum without a single fun or charming trait, instead focusing on his awful and insane personality and his terrifying ability. He has the most serious fight in Part 3, nothing about him is played for laughs (even the Pet Shop fight had Iggy's comedic commentary).

Not really, no. He's drawn to be cartoony most of the time but he's not ugly (or at least he's not supposed to be ugly). He was ugly at his introduction, but then again, that was early Part 3, everyone was fucking ugly.
Shigechi falls into that "ugly cute" category that Okuyasu and Joshuu fall into. When I mean ugly, I mean really fucking ugly, like J.Geil or Dario tier ugly.

Angelo gets some funny moments too (getting mad over stepping in dog poo and his speech before "death"). But Vanilla is just not given a single humanizing trait whatsoever, which is part of what makes him work so well as a "OHSHIT" battle.

Hi. I started reading Part 5 a few days ago and I'm enjoying it a lot, so far it's tied with 4 for my favorite Part. However I'm at chapter 563 and it seems like the scans took quite a dip in quality, they're even using comic sans. Does anyone know where I can find the rest of the high quality Part 5 scans? Thanks!
