This movie is literally unstoppable.
>>
Still not yet out in my country. Will bring a bunch of friends to watch it, maybe we'll be the ones pushing it into first place.

is it dumb to ask for a good link?
I can only find that bootleg version that surfaced. is there a high def leak yet?

Welp, it's Kana from the Chihayafuru live action movie.

She's qt but not, y know, shrine-maiden-defy-time-alter-reality qt like how Mitsuha was portrayed. She look southeast asian to me.

Her version of Nandemonaiya is awesome tho.
>>
>>151905961
And yet America will remain ignorant of it and it won't win an Oscar because the academy is run by idiots

Holy fucking shit! When is this coming to the US? It's like they don't want to make another 10 billion yen.
Is there a reason for this wait time in Burgerland? Are they waiting for an official Oscar nomination that way the normalfags here will at least care/want to see it?

That's basically it, Funi is waiting for the Oscar nomination so that they can put the "Oscar nominated" label on it before releasing the movie.
You've still got it better than other people, in Germany we don't even know if Kimi No Na Wa will be released at all.

>>
I got to see it when it premiered at Anime-Expo and again in Los Angeles. I wanna see it again so much.
>>
>>151911899
If it gets an oscar nomination, the theatrical release will be extended and push the BDs further away.
>>
>>151907302
Screeners are DVD though. Probably will have to wait til the bluray release.
>>
>>151911899
Yeah but other places in Europe got the movie.
Basically every non NEET European has a passport. Plus flying is like 50% less than in America. Plus Europe is so close together.
I've driven 4 hours here just to see a friend for a weekend. In some of Europe that's like two countries away. You guys have no excuse.
If we wanted to see it, we'd have to pay like $700 for a ticket. You can get from Frankfurt to London in 2 hours for like $150.
>>
>>151911848
Thanks. I can wait no problem, I just wanna know if and when the fucking thing will be screened somewhere in my vicinity. I'm losing my sanity trying to find the Czech or Slovak release date, if there even is any.

I hope your stay in Slovakia was okay. Bratislava is kinda boring considering it is the Capital of the country but there still are many things to visit and see. Prague is several leagues above, though. You can't manage to see everything even if you had a whole month.
>>
Can you imagine how much shit will go down if any mainstream american celebrity supports this film? You thought /pol/invading /a/is bad?

An oscar nomination will be terrifying for the true fans of this art form.

>Having to take a $150 flight to watch a movie
Sounds like a pretty good excuse not to, actually.
>>
>>151912124
You can get a flight from London to Frankfurt and back for less than £20.
>>
>>151912224
Anime is already 99% trash though
>>
>>151912135
I did two weeks. Flew to Vienna. Friend picked me up, stayed in Bratislava. Went to Nove Mesto. Shit faced and took mushrooms. Took motorbike to some castle on top of a big hill. Bus to Prague. So much weed and cheap liquor. God man, Europe is so much better than the US.
Can't wait to come back. Good to know there's some weebs there. Just be patient. I watched the shitty screener back months ago, will gladly pay to see it again in a theater. Hope you get it soon.
Na zdravie.
>>
>>151912335
My estimate was just based off of a quick Google search for "flight from Germany to UK".
Either way, my point is all the more valid, travel in Europe is much cheaper than in the US.
I drove 3 hours round trip to New Fucking Jersey just to see Kizu parts 1 and 2.

>>
>>151912533
For the most part it is. For some reason in Britain the train fares are fucking ridiculous. I can fly to Germany and back for £20, but when it comes to taking a train a couple of hundred miles north to Leeds to go see Koe no Katachi it costs fucking £80.

Find that sort of hard to believe since they were literally crying when they saw each other. Also, why would Shinkai leave the ending on a vague note if he's just gonna tell everyone what happens next?
>>
>>151911956
Great, you reminded me of the shitty German dub of Unlimited Blade Works. Thanks for triggering me.

>>151912224
It wouldn't be the first time an anime was nominated for an Oscar.
Spirited Away won an Oscar, and Howl's Moving Castle, The Wind Rises, and Kaguya were all nominated.
What makes Your Name. getting a nomination so different?
>>
>>151913494
It's not Ghibli.
>>
>>151912862
Fuck off Brazil.
>>
>>151913494
I think it will be interesting because its modern Japanese storytelling. I'm not saying Ghibli isn't modern or Japanese but the general Western audience is aware of their inoffensive and fantastical style. This just seems a lot closer to an actual anime while Ghibli films are sort of removed from that.

On the other hand I haven't even seen the movie so I'm just talking out my ass. Isn't it supposed to be in the US already? What gives?

Where do I find what animu is being shown in theatres near me? Like is there a site that keeps track specifically of animu screenings, especially those one-off special events?

More specifically in SF Bay Area. I almost missed Mononoke Hime yesterday because that, I can't be arsed to keep checking all the normie movie sites regularly on the off-chance that something like that comes up.

>>
>>151914348
I would love for Kimi no Na wa to win an Oscar just to see the mass confusion of normies nationwide and for mass butthurt from Disneyfags rooting for Moana, Zootopia, and Finding Dory.
But we all know that the Oscars don't know shit about animation, so it's never gonna happen.
Let's hope at least that Zootopia gets snubbed so that the furries can fuck off forever.
>>
>>151915683
>normies
Kimi no na wa appeals to the normalfags, as does every single Shinkai movie.
Kill yourself.
>>
>>151915723
Agreed, the movie completely falls apart as soon as you think a bit about the character development and they way a lot of the scenes played out. Normies dont do that. They just sit down and enjoy. Kimi no na wa is the perfect normie movie. Although, I am not too sure how normies react to teenage romance scenes since they are never really confronted with them. High school kids being the center of a love story is a REALLY japanese thing, you hardly ever, if ever, see that in western media.
>>
>>151915884
>Although, I am not too sure how normies react to teenage romance scenes since they are never really confronted with them. High school kids being the center of a love story is a REALLY japanese thing, you hardly ever, if ever, see that in western media.

>>
>>151915229
WOW FUCKING THANKS MAN SO HELPFUL I NEVER WOULD OF FIGURED IT OUT MYSELF
>>
>>151916040
That is literally aimed at kids and is quite a rare thing. You really cant compare the amount of anime that play in a high school setting (too many to count) to the amount of movies/tv shows of the western world that do. ESPECIALLY with a focus on romance.
>>
Why does this happen so suddently?
I am not even doubting the movie, but there were so many good movies and people never cared.
Is it because of the hole Miyazaki left behind after leaving?
>>
Man, I really hope this film doesn't ruin Shinkai's career. I don't want a bunch of normie-bait from him.
>>
>>151916155
>That is literally aimed at kids and is quite a rare thing
No, it's not. In what world do you live in?
>>
>>151915683
How is Moana? Finding Dory is objectively shit. Zootopia was kind of all right, but I also don't want furry shit winning anything.

Spirited Away was up against Lilo&Stitch and Ice Age, but we all know they gave it to Miyazaki out of pity.

Your Name is miles better than Finding Dory and from what I heard, Moana as well. If Kubo gets nominated, it's ending holds it back too much for me to consider it a serious contender which only leaves Zootopia as it's competition. I think Zootopia is a good movie, but it doesn't having the staying power of Your Name. After I saw Your Name, it stuck in my head for days to weeks, while I didn't get the same experience from Zootopia at all.

Ghibli has a special place in hollywood because they're owned by Disney. They get a nomination almost every year they put a film out as a formality because the ceremony is obligated to acknowledge Disney and its international efforts. They win on the rare occasion that Disney doesn't put out a decent movie because the ceremony is obligated to give an award to Disney either directly or indirectly every year.

The Animated categories of the Oscars were added to recognize (read: avoid snubbing) Disney specifically. Non-Disney affiliated nominees are essentially non-contenders as long as there's Disney-affiliated competition.
>>
>>151919677
Disney's going to be more willing to push Zootopia, so I think it's going to win but that's not going to stop me from rooting for this one.
>>
>>151919921
Wrong. Ponyo didn't get nominated.
>>
>>151919921
Why is modern Disney so evil?
>>
>>151919935
I don't think so on Zootopia.
I think Disney's gonna bank more on Moana since it's still in theaters rather then trying to get an Oscar for a movie that already ran its course.
Your Name is gonna get nominated, but the odds are too stacked against it for it to win.
>>
>>151919990
That's really just a rare occasion, though. We have about 3 Disney or Disney affiliated movies (Finding Dory, Zootopia and Moana) so it's clear that they've got a way better chance at snubbing Kimi.

I don't think it's going to be Moana, the public reception is overall "meh" compared to Zootopia, so it's clear that there would be backlash for it. Even if they don't care, I would think that they would pick the one that makes more sense and that regular people won't suspect.

Normal people love Zootopia but they don't care for Moana as much.
>>

Fucking this. Disney is basically the animation mafia.
>>151920092
Because like any major corporation that makes trillions of dollars in a single day, they want more money.
Disney is arguably the biggest brand name in existence.
Anything that has their name on it is guaranteed to make money.
As a result animated filmmakers working for Disney are barely even trying anymore since they know their movies are guaranteed to succeed anyway.
>>
>>151920321
Even if Your Name doesn't win, it's a winner in my heart.

Though I want it to put Disney in it's place and claim it's rightful place as an Oscar winner. They can't keep getting away with it.

>I don't think it's going to be Moana, the public reception is overall "meh" compared to Zootopia, so it's clear that there would be backlash for it.
That's what they said about The Lego Movie, and the Academy didn't even nominate it.
Zootopia isn't in theaters anymore and NOBODY is talking about it.
Same with Finding Dory.
Moana is still in theaters and Disney wants it to do better in the box office.
They're gonna throw Zootopia and Dory under the bus in favor of Moana.
The butthurt will be glorious.

Something Zootopia has over the other Disney films is it's message on racism that everyone just eats up. They're not going to choose something that failed to capture the success of Frozen, and I think Zootopia comes closest to that.

In an ideal world, we wouldn't be arguing about which movie they're going to shill harder and Your Name would actually have a good chance at winning. Sad, isn't it?
>>
>>151906570
>two actors recording in the same booth
Does this happen often? I thought voice acting usually happens with actors recording separately and then the sound team edits all the dialogue together afterwards.
>>

>Even if Your Name doesn't win, it's a winner in my heart.
Exactly. You shouldn't even care about the Oscars. They're an overglorified popularity contest where you watch 2 hours of smug Hollywood shitheads sitting together in a hugbox sucking each others dicks.
>I want it to put Disney in it's place and claim it's rightful place as an Oscar winner.
I do too, but Disney is literally the animation mafia. They have too much power and money which they deliberately use to force other talented animation studios and filmmakers into obscurity. There's nothing that can change that.
>>

>You shouldn't even care about the Oscars.

I really don't a lot of the time, but this time I genuinely think that the merits of Your Name will take it to victory, as naive as that is.

Also, it's a shame that one of the best sources for competition Disney has (Dreamworks) only really rivals a single branch of the tree (Pixar). I would kill to have more good animation that wasn't just all Disney shit, it gets a little tiring after a while, even if there's no chance of it happening. I suppose that a reason I'm so hopeful for Kimi no Na wa is that it represents good animated movies that are as high profile as stuff that Disney or Ghibli puts out.
>>
>>151917301
Zootopia did stick with me for a while, but only because I wanted the rabbit and the fox to fuck.
>>
>>151920710
>it's message on racism that everyone just eats up.
I don't fucking get why its message is such a big deal when they presented it so subtly.
It's not like this is the first Disney movie that tackled racism.
The Hunchback of Notre Dame tackled racism and religious extremism, and was far more profound and up front about it.
And people are completely ignorant and don't realize that many other animated works have tackled racism.
Fucking Code Geass was more in your face about themes of racism.

>In an ideal world, we wouldn't be arguing about which movie they're going to shill harder and Your Name would actually have a good chance at winning. Sad, isn't it?

>I really don't a lot of the time, but this time I genuinely think that the merits of Your Name will take it to victory, as naive as that is.
I wouldn't get your hopes up. The average American moviegoer is just as ignorant as the Academy is about animation.
They don't even bother watching animated movies since they assume it's just for kids and just cop out and say "Fuck it, give it to Disney again."

Kimi no Na wa. is objectively better than anything Disney has shat out in years, but Disney's brand name is just too powerful.
I would love it if Kimi no Na wa. won, but realistically it's not gonna happen.
>>
>>151921036
So this is why the sound design is so good
>>
>>151920922
>It's not like this is the first Disney movie that tackled racism.

I suppose me not being a furry DID play into my opinion on Zootopia, who would've thought?
>>151920987
>The Hunchback of Notre Dame tackled racism as well

That it did, but that was during a time where that wasn't really something in peoples minds. Now we can't even go 5 seconds without it coming up almost anywhere you discuss something. That's why Zootopia is praised more than Notre Dame ever was.
>>
>>151921056
So the reason Zootopia did well and got the attention it did is because it got lucky for coming out the same time as BLM was making headlines? That actually makes a lot of sense.
>>
>>151921036
I still can't believe that the vocalist, guitarist and leader of a fucking rock band composed all the music in this movie.

>>
>>151921145
>The average American moviegoer is just as ignorant as the Academy is about animation

I know it's not realistic at all, especially since there's a stigma on animation that's almost unshakable, but this movie winning would be huge for changing views on animation. But because it has a stigma and no brand recognition like Disney, not many people are going to be intrigued.

Japan has a far superior way of doing things. I think the only American production that did the same thing was Batman: TAS, which recorded everyone together at the same time so they could play off of each other.

Really, Western productions could and should learn from how Japan does things. The performances are a lot better when you can play off of the other people.

Zootopia has the liberal message that the Academy eats up. Also it's a Disney Movie, which elevates it above the competition thanks to the reputation of Disney (Really, the reputation Disney has built up over half a century is all the shilling it really requires).

Kimi no Na wa will likely not make it past Zootopia, because more of those who vote for the Oscars will have seen Zootopia and take the message and the Disney name above the visuals and style of Kimi no Na wa.

Sad but true.

Reminds me of that one American actor (Ian Mckellen I think the wizard from LotR) who cried on set because he's being made to act all alone in a greenscreen, since his character should be way taller than the others in his scene.

Acting should really be done in the company of who you're acting with. It's important to hear the feedback so you could maintain some sort of cohesion within the actors.

To be fair, they didn't need to do that in when they filmed LOTR since they were using forced perspective trickery to make the hobbits appear small. But for The Hobbit they wanted to film in 3D (because money) which meant they couldn't use forced perspective.

Body switching isn't anything new, especially in the west. And just reading the wikipedia page of this film and having seen Hot Chick, I can confirm, without a doubt, that outside of the body switch hook, there is nothing similar about them.

This movie has more in common with the Lakehouse with Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock, which is in itself a remake of the Korean film Il Mare.

It's got the same hook as Freaky Friday and about twelve dozen cartoon parodies. It's not the hook or the story elements. It's about the characters.

I did like Hot Chick, though. Not good, but I've a soft spot for Rob Schneider.

>I'm not sure I want it to be a hit in the west.
I hope it'll flop, but let's be honest, it won't. It caters to the lowest common denominator: normalfags. Whether Shinkai was being humble, or making a marketing move or not, he was right to tell people not to watch it. This is what people will know him for, at least for the next year or two they bother to remember the show, and they will compare this to the works of the greats of yesteryear. Imagine, as the creator, how embarrassing it must be for such a flawed work to be compared to the works of men you idolized all your life. But of course, it will do exceptionally well, normalfags and mongrels will proclaim it as the best thing ever, and watching anime will become a bit more mainstream. Then, 3-5 years from now, people will have forgotten everything about it, and people will be hyping up and circle-jerking around the current "big thing." Life goes on.

I don't know man that ending was painful, felt like I was shoved a bittersweet ending when they could have easily just remembered or met earlier. Seriously 5 years they had to suffer with their autistic longing for each other. Why did he have to make them suffer for saving a town of people? They were just dumb kids in love. It has nothing to do with whether I enjoyed it or not, and everything to do with the fact that the praise it's getting is largely unearned. I can enjoy the movie for the what it is, but still believe it doesn't deserve the praise it's getting. Perhaps offer a reply other than ad hom in the future, though.

Very pretty
OST is actually really, really good
Story plays on impact of a natural disaster, 5 years after the 2011 tsunami
Story mainly about the feeling of missing something that you dont know about/haven't found yet. Very familiar feeling with that audience/age bracket, not just with relationships but general "What do I want from life?"
>>
>>151935598
>according to the lastest survey, 40% of Nipponeses aged between 18-35 yo are still virgins.
>>
What am i missing here? I've seen it and thought it wasn't even all it was hyped up to be. The amount of positivity /a/ is giving off is abnormal, so I thought this might be a ruse.
>>
>>151935714
>The amount of positivity /a/ is giving off is abnormal
The film is about trying to find something you know you want, but you dont know exactly what it is. I imagine a lot of people who watch anime/browse /a/ are the sort of closed off, socially anxious type (myself included) who dont feel fulfilled with their life.

If this movie didn't touch you maybe its because you already are happy/fulfilled. If so then I'm happy for you
>>
>>151935666
>Story plays on impact of a natural disaster, 5 years after the 2011 tsunami

This is important; I believe we weebs miss out on the Nip culture aspects. The whole rural vs urban divide is a thing as well.

And talking about sources of inspiration,

>Inspiration for the story came from works including Shūzō Oshimi's Inside Mari, Ranma ½, the Heian period novel Torikaebaya Monogatari, and Greg Egan's short story The Safe-Deposit Box.

I never expected Boku wa Mari no Naka to be partially responsible for one of the biggest Japanese films. That's amazing.
>>

>In speaking with Japanese media outlet News Post Seven, Ishida, who’s won the prestigious Naoki Award for literature and had two of his novels (Ikebukuro West Gate Park and Akihabara@DEEP) adapted into manga, said:

>“I think Makoto Shinkai, the director of Your Name, is good at grasping the emotions of young people. I figure he probably didn’t have any enjoyable romances in his high school days.”

>Ishida went on to say that he thinks that Shinkai channels his imagined ideal of young romance into the anime he creates, and voiced his opinion that “Having a character who’s never had a steady girlfriend or had sex, but who’s still cool, is a fundamental part of a girls’ manga-like world.” And while some have been calling Shinkai “the next Hayao Miyazaki,” Ishida pointed to what he feels is a stark difference between the two anime creators.

>“With Miyazaki and his themes of man versus nature, he packs his work with his own experiences. But with Shinkai, I don’t think he’s really experienced [the things being portrayed in his films].”

>Shinkai responded by saying “I wonder why someone I’ve never even met feels compelled to speak on what experiences I do or don’t have, or the nature of my life, and as though he knows everything about me?"

I never really bothered checking malls outside Metro Manila but I'm pretty sure that some other SM Malls also showed it. Tough luck, if ever. You can always plan a break and make it to japan for a one day cinema visit. I'm metro manila area so I got a lot of choices for where to watch, although I watched nearly the last day.
Didn't expect that many people turning out near the end of its debut, though. Some of my friends watched it twice or thrice, so maybe the weebs kept on coming back.

It's going up against Disney, and as much as I want it to win you can't count the big mouse out. But it'll definitely have that "Oscar Nominee" label in the end.

He made the movie, when you judge the movie you judge him.

You and Shinkai are idiots, yes.

This. It'll get nominated, but the Mouse Mafia and the ignorance of the Academy's voting committee and the average American moviegoer will prevent it from winning an Oscar.

I've watched 20 minutes and it's already terrible, it's full of stupid cliches.
>>
>>151961510
Keep watching faggot.

All you can do is appreciate that it got nominated and be pleasantly surprised if it does win. I love the movie and I think it beats the competition solidly, and as much as I want it to win, it isn't too likely.

Wrong. When you're judging a movie, you're supposed to judge the fucking movie based on objective criticisms of the movie rather than making bullshit assumptions of the director's personal life you shithead.
>>
>>151961754
Exactly. The Oscars are a fucking meme anyway.
>>
>>151961769
When you do the first you do the second as well.
>>
>>151961592
I'm at 34 minutes and it's even worse.
>>
>>151962311
Time out. Are you watching the Chinkrip?

Kill yourself.
>>
>>151962604
That's exactly the kind of feeling this movie incites.
