I don't know about you or anyone else but aside from Force, I very much enjoy everything after A's. Be aware that the later seasons are pretty different to the tone of the original and A's. S1+A's are about magical girls vs ancient artifacts, StrikerS is about politics and magical military vs magical terrorist, Vivid is about magical sport tournament + ancient history while Vivid Strike is a pure magical sport anime.
If you do plan on watching the later season then I recommend reading the manga version of Vivid instead of watching it since the anime ended literally in the middle of nowhere before anything was resolved. There is also Force which is also about the military vs terrorists but the manga has been on hiatus since 3 years ago.

Strikers was alright. It takes the franchise in a different direction with Nanoha, Fate and Hayate as grown up adults in the military. Yes, Vivid and Vivid Strike are spin-offs of StrikerS. StrikerS takes place 10 years after A's and involves grown-up Nanoha, Hayate and Fate being officers in the military and fighting against terrorists.

Vivid takes place 4 years afte StrikerS and has a new sets of characters (Nanoha's daughter and her friends) and some of the old cast who shows up occasionally.

Vivid Strike takes place one year later and revolves around two new characters, Fuuka (who ends up becoming friends with Nanoha's daughter Vivio) and Fuuka's old friend now antagonist Rinne. That series essentially focuses on magical MMA with the characters fighting matches in the sporting ring.

I'd recommend watching StrikerS for sure.

If you're interested then read the Vivid manga at least through the tournament (about chapter 30 or so). If you're not enjoying it at all you can drop it, though you might want to watch Vivid Strike if the idea of cute girls beating the shit out of one another and lifting weights tickles your fancy.

This I agree with. Despite all the flaws of the season itself, Nanoha's personal arc was a very welcome improvement over past seasons we finally got to know her deeper and she got to do cooler and more meaningful stuff than before.

Also pretty satisfactory seeing her grow up as a badass getting to the metaphorical top of the magical combat world.

Brave, goofy, powerful, charming and confident. Adult Nanoha is a miracle of the Universe.

I only recently finished watching all the Nanoha anime series. I'm digging into the other material like manga and drama CDs a little.

So this is one of the few threads I've lurked on /a/ that's about the series in general and not vivid strike, and I'm genuinely confused.

On one side there's the people who post nothing but Vivid and Vivid Strike like it's gospel, and the other side where people don't even acknowledge you if you claim to like anything past A's.

Where's all the people in between? The completely normal people who can enjoy all seasons while still being aware of the flaws? Nanoha 1st season was boring until around episode 6/7, A's had a really rushed and lackluster final boss and ending, StrikerS was inconsistent with its pacing and took too long for the actual plot to get rolling, Vivid was too crowded with irrelevant side characters instead of focusing on a central few, and Vivid Strike had so many loose ends it's practically begging for a second season.

And yet they're all good in their own way. A's is still my favourite, but sometimes I feel there are too few people who can just like or dislike something without being an ass about it.

Just don't expect an amazingly deep story since the previous interview said that Tsuzuki started writing a bunch of short scenes that he wanted to see first before even coming up with the overall plot. The number of scenes that he wrote were too many for one movie so they had to make it into two. They have done market research and said that "if we're going to make a movie, might as well make something the fans want to see", though, so even if it's not something amazing, I'd expect to be a really fun one.

Personally I'm a sucker for world building so I found StrikerS and to an extent Vivid and Vivid Strike to be my favorite parts of the franchise. Midchilda is a really interesting distopia that manages to mask its flaws in ways that aren't readily apparent to the viewer and only begin to get noticed as you look closer. Even Vivid and Vivid Strike continue this with various segments that seem far darker than you would expect from an outerspace magical girl series. I was also enjoying Force to a degree and wish that they were able to start that series back up.

So Midchildan society (and its military forces such as the TSAB) are the main draw to the series for me. In fact, it was really the TSAB (specifically Chrono and his mom on board the Anthra) that got my interest in the series and helped to separate Nanoha from being a more generic magical girl show.

Now, Nanoha and A's definitely had better stories were but the setting (modern day Japan) was nowhere near as interesting as Midchilda's. I'm hoping Reflections has a bit more focus on the TSAB related material and the characters at least leave Japan for another world or place.

I think we can all agree that everything after Triangle Heart was a mistake. I know I'm not the only one who hated the way that Nanoha and A's completely butchered the series and all the characters in order to make a shitty magical girl spin-off, introduce a bunch of bullshit side characters like Fate and the Wolkenritter and then never go back to the original main cast again.

Honestly I found it quite fitting how Vivid Strike sidelined Nanoha and Fate and the rest of those bullshit characters.
