Was 2016 one of the greatest years in anime history?

Not a single thing I watched was any good. Maybe if the movies end up being masterpieces, but I'm doubtful.

Definitely in the top 50.

Koyomimonogatari is a bunch of filler.
Kizumonogatari is worth watching but nothing to lose your mind about.
Space Patrol Luluco was ok.
Flip Flappers fakes itself out of the AOTYAY title because it ends horribly. (The script falls apart.)
Not done Girlish Number but I doubt it gets that much better.
I didn't watch anything else this year, it all looked like shit. Space Patrol Luluco is probably AOTY, and it's pretty forgettable.

Bungou stray dogs was pretty good imo. It's a good shoen. It had its faults but it was a fun watch.

Erased is my 10/10 on mal, so 2016 was a good year for me.

The whole appeal of the show is that Subaru suffers horribly, but is then sent given the chance to fight back. That's what makes horror good.
Calling it "generic shounen trash" because you saw side characters fighting for like 4 cumulative episodes is fucking silly, especially when the most important factor in all of that fighting doesn't do anything at all. He just does the HR work.

It was a terrible year desu, shitposting was through the roof and imo it had no memorable series. Some were alright, but nothing that made me think "this is it".

Also, I'm starting to think that some people genuinely like Re:Zero, not simply trolling, and that's scary given how terrible it is.

REEE zero had 1 good episode, shelter was meh and I'm still waiting for BDs to watch Kimi no na wa, so at least for me this year was one of worst ones.

I haven't watched re:zero but i can already tell you it isn't very good.
