The revolutionary thing with Madoka is not that it has dark elements (because tragic backstory, painful failures, permanent deaths, betrayal, rogue MGs, children soldiers, and bad ends are definitely not new in the mahou shoujo genre). Madoka made a strong impression because it's the first of its kind to question the ethics of being a magical girl itself.

Before that, MGs had always been understood as heroes in the large scheme of things. Madoka was the first to put a question on this core concept, that "what if MG itself is the evil existence?" This is the reason why it's called a deconstruction, not because it's edgy. It dared to question something as fundamental as "what if 1+1 isn't equal to 2?"

Mahoiku is not a Madoka clone. The purpose of being a MG in mahoiku universe is still originally to save human, thus it's a traditional mahou shoujo.

In All According To's ending, now the world has magic girls who go where they want and do what they like, with no oversight, limitations, or obligations, purely for the benefit of the human world, not the magic world. You can see in the last few minutes that they're going around doing important things, and training to be stronger.

Remember, this was supposed to be a training program for the benefit of the magic world (i.e. to become fodder for the rabbit-things' plans). The program is supposed to produce one magical girl, to either go to the magic world herself or to replace the current trainer girl so she can go to the magic world. Everybody else gets their powers taken and memory-wiped (at minimum).

There's some potential initial benefit in the real world (like the wish-granting in Madoka), but it's about taking the girls for their own purposes.

Do we need to refer to details in "The Adventures of The Starkiller" (the original, pre-production script) or "Darksaber" (one of the many shitty "extended universe" novels) when interpreting Star Wars? How about the Wizard of Oz book series when talking about the 1939 movie?

I mean, whatever's in the magic world can email the magic smartphones. There's every indication that they would have access to the data easily and instantly if they wanted it. They've had at least one previous incident of most trainees dying. Why would nobody notice what was happening?

The sense I got was that there was a great indifference about the details of the process, as long as the program kept producing magical girls.

It would have been fully consistent with his character, and it could have served the purpose of convincing the winning girl to serve loyally in the magic world despite all the abuse, particularly if they made a show of punishing the scapegoat.

Nah even the original LN was way to sparse on the details on the LoM. Partly because the plot was *more* Madoka-ish in the first draft(the Magical Girls were being raised as FOOD!). However, the author seems to have discovered as he was writing that having the LoM be incompetent humans instead of pure evil makes for a much more interesting plot.

However the anime decided for a much too faithful adaptation, and honestly just ended up emphasizing the weaknesses of the original.

I see some issues with the BBC = Lazuline 3 idea.

First: Lazuline III has memory altering magic.

Second: Pfle contacted someone with memory altering magic to hide her memory from herself.

Third: BBC doesn't seem to have any recollection of Pfle, or vice versa.

I'll give you that SW and Dark QT were great, but the rest kind of pulled it down.

Most of the really large scale fights generally rely on clever use of teamwork and unexpected tactics to be good, but the big climax fight really only had one curveball of Deluge butting in which really didn't really seem clever and relied too much on CQ strats which weren't all that fleshed out or exciting. Needed more teamwork in my opinion and interesting powers, but we for the most part got a rehash of various previous fights mashed together.

Jokers handled large scale fights really well, but I feel like Aces dropped the ball.

I get the feeling that the division that did MG tests was the least restrictive of them all, while the one that handles rogue MGs is rather strict if not sluggish. Not only that but there are more possible MGs than rogue MGs that already exist obviously.

　ちょっと捻りのある魔法少女ものかと思いきや、それだけにとどまらない魅力が本作にはあります。まず、四十路で陰気な感じのする魔法少女。さらに、シリアス且つバイオレンスなストーリー。そして、混沌とした狂気の展開。不気味で迫力のある暗殺のシーンに始まり、中盤は奇妙なズレをもちながらも平凡な日常が描かれ、ラストの壊れていくような戦闘へと繋がる流れ。二重構造で描かれた構成にも工夫が感じられました。いろいろな意味で読み応えたっぷりの作品です。
