I saw this the other day.
I'd give it a 7/10.

It was an interesting concept, but it felt rushed during the transition of events before they stopped talking to one another. I never got the whole "forget" everything they went through. I understand the male was the main character of the series, but the female was also a main character, and she was developed less than the male protagonist.

The ending scene with the whole "what is your name?" was actually pretty neat. But realistically, it would have been better if they hadn't been able to find each other after they saw one another on the train.

The best part of the film was the struggle of trying to get the town to accept everything.
The most emotional scene was when the female opened her hand.

I'm not sure how the novel handled everything, but I don't understand why they didn't check the fucking dates when in each others bodies.

All in all it was an all right watch, but I don't understand the madness for it.

I didn't finish Zootopia, but I wasn't nearly as captivated by it as I was this movie. I do think that Kubo was better than Zootopia though and that the reason I think Kubo won't win is because the ending was preachy as fuck compared to the rest of the film. I never saw Moana, but from what I heard from those who did see it, it was nothing to write home about. Overall, this is the most consistently good compared to Kubo and just better than Zootopia in my opinion. And those people will usually pick the animated movie that conforms to their values and spreads a message they can back. What overall grand message about the world and the human condition does Kimi no Na wa have? I really do think that the way Kubo ended ruined the whole thing and any chance that it has of winning an Oscar. The movie's writing isn't too spectacular, but it's effective and combined with the stellar production value I think it makes it that much better. Without the same animation or soundtrack, I can only imagine that it wouldn't be here, but the way the movie looks and the way it's shot make it stand out from most things of it's nature. I'm a sucker for high quality 2D animation of any form and some of the environmental shots in this are just amazing. Kubo has this too, but it's writing dips in quality at the end and I think that even though Kubo does have better writing than Your Name by a good amount, the dip is too severe to me and the consistency that Your Name has makes it overall the better film in my eyes.

I think that Corraline was fantastic from start to finish, though I suppose that's everyones favorite Laika film so I'm not really saying anything new here.

I agree that the second half wasn't as strong as the first, and I'm disappointed we didn't get more of the 5 years later section and got a bunch of them saving the town, which I do feel could've been a little shorter.
