Just finished my first route-Gehenna's Stigma. Enjoying the writing a lot and the main plotlines seem interesting, characters are great as ever too (and Maho and Leskinen seem on par, although I'm less sold on Mayuri's friends). The timeskips feel a little jarring though so far, as do the character perspective flips. Anyone else felt like that?

I think he's legit the first character to make me laugh out loud from a VN, anime or manga-although part of that is admittedly the glorious Engrish.

One thing I have found a bit weird on top of aforementioned pacing issues is that a few situations have come up where lab mems should have picked up that Okabe is in touch with "Kurisu" or at least something related to her. Feels funny that it hasn't been addressed-especially at the shrine, with Suzuha around.

The woman in black seems to vary between timelines, which is interesting. She was Kagari in Stigma, but that's impossible in Maho's route. I'm thinking she's probably Yuki or Reyes because no way it's not an already introduced character. Reyes doesn't seem like the sort so I'm guessing Yuki somehow. Memory manipulation makes a lot possible.

I definitely agree on Luka's part-I like him but he's nothing special as a character. Leaning towards agreeing with Moeka too-she's a good character and all but Maho and Leskinen are excellent. I do think Tennouji is on par with them though, I've been sorta missing him on occasion throughout the game. His appearance during the party scene was badass as hell.

I'm liking Daru a lot more than in the first game too, although his new art is a bit questionable.

#Unrelated To be honest, Zero did disappoint me. Maybe, it was just that I had put up my hopes too high after playing Steins;Gate.

Maho is a genuinely great character. She has more depth than most of the S;G characters (though a lot of them got fleshed in 0)

I think it's because she feels like she gets the most consistent interaction with Okabe in Zero, at least so far. Chemistry with the main character really helps get a character popular, especially when the MC is as good as Okabe. Fully admit fact I'm still reading it could mean recency bias though-although I just finished rereading SG as well (stopped just before true ending, so I could run through everything in chronological order from SG through SG 0 to the OVA and movie).

Yes, this VN was done badly, it could have been way better if the routes actually added something to the story. Don't get me wrong, the characterizations were done greatly, but the story has many gaps in it. There are so many questions being asked in these threads that I think it should have been approached differently. I mean what did Maho route do? It gave us insight on the frame problem and a little bit of Amadeus backstory. What did Kagari route bring? A song which is a paradox. I repeat the characterization is great but the story suffers greatly from it. The constant perspective changes don't help either. We get insight into the characters but the story suffers from it.

Finished Recursive Egg or whatever Kagari's route was called. The buildup to the route was IMO the best so far, but after I avoided the call that meant I was locked onto her route for certain it felt a lot more meandering with no real payoff. Some interesting answers, but not the tightest storytelling. I have a feeling that Promised Rinascimento is going to be fantastic though, assuming that it builds off the things that seemed to be implied before the worldline shift.

This confuses me: If Kagari in the Altair branch is actually Yuki, how did she integrate so well as a fake yuki without raising any suspicion to even Suzuha who should know the real Yuki better than anyway

Obviously he's in the wrong overall, since we know on a meta level what needs to be done, but he hasn't been near enough of an asshole or even pathetic enough to justify the general treatment he gets-especially since everyone else's plan basically boils down to 'try harder to save Kurisu' rather than anything that would actually solve the issue.

Nobody has even suggested the 'trick the world' thing or tried to brainstorm ways to bypass the laws of convergence, which makes Okabe's stance pretty reasonable IMO, given his huge trauma.

I find it weird how little of Leskinen was exposed despite the long ass time we spent with him in the game. In the end we never did really know what the whole deal with him was, only fragments of it.

They never did make it clear just how much of him was a facade and how much was real. It couldn't have been all an act considering not only the fact that he seemed genuinely sad about brainwashing maho and also the fact that it's just way too much time he spent with all the characters. It felt like they just went "HEY HE WAS A BADDIE ALL ALONG LMAO" and didn't bother to expand much on him beyond that.

Also, I cleared the game before yesterday and browsed the archive for past threads and stuff, and saw someone asking who was "morally worst", Reyes or Leskinen. It's pretty close but morally I'd say that Reyes is worse because, while they're both on board the whole brainwashing train, Leskinen wants things dealt with peacefully while Reyes murders a whole room full of people to get what she wants.

As people though, reyes just fucking sucks, she's a psycho bitch.

The impression I got was that Leskinen as of the events of the game was not really a facade, just obscuring his darker motives. He seems pretty sad about Maho and claims his liking of Okabe was genuine too in Stigma.

I think that from the brief coverage we get of his future actions, he jumps off the slippery slope though and his reasonably good intentions are eventually twisted by the lengths he goes to.

It actually would have, I'm reading that route atm. They explicitly say that they need to talk to Okabe to work out what to do next, having hit a wall, with Maho outright asking him what to do with regards to the compression stuff. Daru also really strongly implies he was planning on asking Okabe even if Okabe hadn't worked it out himself, so I disagree there.

Also, Kagari is a monster in combat. Kinda want to see her vs Tennouji, since despite her feats she's fled him before and Tennouji is similarly hyped for badassery.

Finished non-true-end Vega and have just started Promised Rinascimento. Not regretting it so far-as glorious as the Reawakening is, Rinascimento is already feeling more gripping.
