Cage of Eden's ending was pretty disappointing, being both kind of an asspull and leaving out some unanswered plot points. It hurts to have a series that gets you to start caring about it have such a shallow ending. Reborn! is another one that comes to mind that made me regret ever caring about it.

This is a trend that pisses me off the most, where in series with romance as a big part or an important part the author has a long drawn-out arc unrelated to the romance before wrapping the series up in 2-3 chapters, often without a epilogue either. TWGOK did this, Cheeky Angel did this, Ouran kinda did this, and Kyou Kara Ore Wa did this, except Riko didn't even confess in the end either. And that's off the top of my head. To play devil's advocate, the title was History's Strongest DISCIPLE, and he was just that at the end of the manga.

That said, it's still a very underwhelming ending. Kenichi's last fight was super forgettable compared to the end of that island tournament arc (vs. Shou i think his name was?) I blame the shift to focusing on the master fights. I hate when authors sideline their main character in a fighting manga for literally years at a time.

World's saved, Kei and Kato got their waifus/families back (as did based muscle rider), and everyone on the final squad that died fighting final boss alien got rezzed and transferred before the ship blew. Mayonaka no X Giten was fantastic up until the X reveal and the entire series wraps up in the most half-assed, bullshit manner possible.

X is the prisoner guy's split personality which literally split off from him and had been inhabiting his sister. MC's sister was killed by their father who swapped into her body, tried to attack sister in MC's body and got killed in self-defense. None of this is anything that could've been guessed from the story up to that point and are plot twists the author pulled out of his ass. Last chapter hasn't been translated but from the Raws looks like a non-ending.

The author's other series had bullshit endings too but the series had been going fine up to that point so the sudden "SORRY SERIES IS OVER" ending with everything wrapped up in like 4 chapters and all the answers being ass pulls was ridiculous.

I generally think anything that's a "bad ending" in the sense that it has a negative outcome for the characters you care about will be a bad ending for most TV shows. It leaves weekly viewers feeling like they've been rewarded for their loyalty with a kick in the nuts.

There are exceptions of course, but only when there's no ruined romance involved or the character is a good but flawed person who's getting their comeuppance. Breaking Bad did it right (and really, you couldn't imagine anything else happening to the trainwreck that was Walter White).
