Is this essentially the same logic behind Gae Bolg's reversal of cause and effect, just worded differently?

Otherwise, it doesn't really matter if you erase the time that describes the process. You still reach the same outcome, which is all that matters. It's like sleeping through surgery.

Go watch that Futurama episode where time starts skipping.

What makes it powerful is that Diavolo's actions still play out, while Diavolo himself can move around without performing them. While everyone is still stuck to what they were going to do ten seconds later, Diavolo is free to run away while punching holes through people if that was what happened in the erased time.

Might go a bit autistic here but it doesn't. The only way King Crimson can work is if it just affects memories.

King Crimson erasing time would have absolutely zero effect on the world. In order for him to be able to erase time, we have to assume that both the past and future exist, think like editing a clip in Sony Vegas. The clip on the timeline is what we'll call time. Try erasing any 5 random seconds from the middle of the clip. Does what happens after change at all? No it doesn't. It's the same thing with time, if the past, present and future are all equally real, as is needed for "erasing time" to work, then editing out any snippet of time should have zero effect on the events that occur. This is important because it would mean that memory is unaffected. If King Crimson truly erased time, then the people would still have the memories of what happened during the erased time because our memories exist in the present.

This is why anyone that pulls up that bullshit, "I erase the moment at which the bullet hit me therefore I was not shot" picture is a retard.

The only way King Crimson can work is as follows

>Epitaph sees the future
>King Crimson activates, locking everyone except Diavolo into taking the actions of the future that Epitaph observed
>They have no memory of this

This perfectly explains why characters think time was erased. They still made the actions, they just have no memory. It's convulted but it's the only way I've figured out that makes any sense.
>>
Someone explain what you guys are talking about?

Is this somehow related to the band?
>>
>>151739538

>this perfectly explains how Diavolo can survive a bullet passing through his body.

Don't be retarded.
>>
>>151739607
>Araki is a hack

There. Now it's perfect.
>>
What's the point of creating characters with weird powers if you, as the writer, can't even figure out a way for them to work?

You're forgetting that Diavolo is the owner of King Crimson, and thus has special powers that render him immune to whatever was projected in that time. It's not like Dio gets frozen in time whenever he uses The World.

Isn't this exactly what happens to Narancia?
>>
>>151739949

As far as I'm aware, KC is never shown actually attacking someone in skipped time. Narancia is arguable, but it makes far more sense that he just got whacked the moment the skipped time ended. Araki is a hack, but even he wouldn't leave the glaring plothole of "why didn't KC just kill everyone in skipped time?".

>>151739949
Yes. That's how he actually carries out his attacks. To an outsider, it would be somewhat similar to a time stop. If he didn't see him killing someone using Epitaph, he wouldn't be able to do much. The most he could do is position himself for a single kill after the time is over, but that comes at the chance of retaliation and getting his identity discovered.

Epitaph sees what'll happen in 10 (or how much, whatever) seconds.
King Crimson deletes everything that happens in those 10 seconds, making the outcome he saw happen immediately since the rest between "now" and "then" doesn't exist.

Oh and he's a rogue agent - he can make himself and only himself not be affected by causality of that deleted time.
>>
So if king crimson can successfully kill someone in 10 seconds and he uses his power everyone else will just suddenly see a corpse?

Epitaph makes predictions about the future.
King Crimson creates a new reality based on those predictions and uses it to rewrite the world in an area around the user.

Done. Shounen.
>>
>>151735432
He does have the ability to see into the future for 10 seconds
so he knows what hes erasing
>>
>>151735103
all it does is and that's what it does
>>
>>151735103
The easiest way to understand its powers is if you have used Adobe Premiere Pro/Sony Vegas before.

It's basically trimming 10 seconds of a video then erasing it and glueing remaining parts.
>>
>>151742634
Say I have a video of someone getting shot. If i cut out the timeframe when the bullet penetrates someone and put together the two parts, the person will still collapse and bleed
>>
>>151739702
Essentially
>>
>>151742634
That doesn't work. Removing the middle part doesn't change the content in the footage that comes after it.
>>
>>151739343
Fuck off.
>>
King Crimson does NOT erase time, that's a metaphor (to follow the theme of villains having time powers) that the translators FUCKED UP and made literal.

What actually happens is that Epitaph predicts what will happen, then that happens exactly -- except Diavolo is free to act out differently than what was predicted. During this time, everyone except Diavolo is unaware of what is happening. That's the "erase" part -- nobody remembers anything except Diavolo. So, everyone is forced to act out as they would have without conscious awareness of it happening. Diavolo can then step to the side (for example) and punch them through the stomach in classic Araki fashion.

There is no literal erasing of time, the stand is not that hard to figure out. It's a future seeing stand that lets the user change their own actions, basically.
>>
>>151735432
It's more about fate then time itself. Diavolo's entire thing is about running from fate. King Crimson allows him to alter time, changing fate for himself. This is why Diavolo is aware of it and able to move in the 'erased' time. Everyone and everything else will play to the whims of fate.

This is why his fate at the end of the part is so poetic. He spent so long believing that fate was on his side, because he had the power to change it. That he wasn't just another sleeping slave of destiny. But then GER happened and fate came crashing down on Diavolo with a fury. He avoided death so many times, he should have died. The entire death loop until the end of time is fate being pissed off at Diavolo for thinking he was better then it.
>>
>>151738081

Then it's basically The World plus precognition.
>>
>>151739607
Actually, his dodging isn't because he 'erases' it. It's because he becomes an outsider to time itself. Time, Gravity and Fate are this interconnected whole in Jojo. In order for King Crimson to be able to move outside of fate, he can't be effected by anything that happens in this outside perspective.

This is why bullets pass through him, not because the time was 'erased', because if that were the case, then nothing would effect anyone. Diavolo simply pushes fate aside and says 'nuh uh'.

This is why epitath is needed, not simply to see the movement of his enemies, but also to see the points where he might have died and to tell fate to shove it.
>>
>>151743803
Yes but he can only reposition during the timestop.
>>
The problem with King Crimson is that people forget he has more than just one ability.
>>
>>151743858
As long as Diavolo wasn't fated to take an action in the erased time. This is how Narancia died. Diavolo was worried that he was going to be revealed, so he started to make the move to attack. He saw in the ten seconds that Narancia would die by his hand. Erasing it meant that no one would remember that Narancia had suddenly disappeared.
>>
>>151739538

It's a little more than that. When Diavolo gets shot, he can erase the entire moment that the bullet hits him, which makes the bullet appear on the other side of his body without hurting him. The bullet should have hit him during the erased time but, since the moment it should have hit him didn't exist, the bullet just changed its past position to the position it would have in the future, as if there were nothing in between.

I personally think that King Crimson, just like Bites the Dust, affects time in terms of the individual events that happen to an object, like other anons said, the "fate" of the object. If Bites the Dust were to strictly apply its rule of whatever happened will happen again, it would essentially change nothing, since the victims would be destined to do exactly the same they did before dying (they would have to do the exact same sequence of steps, say the same words, etc) but instead it only keeps big events, changes in the objects and people (the teapot breaks the same in every iteration even if it's moved to another location or put between pillows). King Crimson can completely erase an event, or a change in the fate of something, as long as it happens entirely inside of the erased time.
>>
>>151743858

Dio can also reposition during the timestop, without being interrupted.
>>
A better metaphor than trimming a video is having lag in a videogame. If you pressed a button or clicked over something, you wouldn't see an immediate response, but your character would carry out the commands anyway, it would be fated to happen. If someone is playing with you but doesn't have lag he would see you doing random shit, but he could change his actions and you couldn't.

In fact it would be even more broken. It's like the other player received your input of commands before they carry out, and decide what to do based on that.
>>
>>151744275
Pretty much this, with the added benefit of being completely immune to what the other guy is doing. Say they had a rocket launcher and you would have been caught in the blast. A little 'lag' and suddenly that blast doesn't matter for shit.
>>
Imagine the story happening on a film band.
Diavolo can see the next 10 seconds of movie with Epitath.
If he doesn't like it, he can come out of the film and cut a part of those 10 seconds, then stitch back the parts left before going back inside the film, while positionning himself to make a surprise attack.
>>
>>151743456
You can't say that King Crimson does not erase time when everyone was wondering what the fuck happened in Venice during Bruno's fight and Polnareff using blood drops to know when King Crimson uses its ability.
>>
>>151735103
Erasing Time: King Crimson's signature ability is to erase a given time frame lasting up to 10 seconds, starting from the instant the ability is activated.

"During" this erased time frame, most people carry on their activities unconsciously, and phenomenons like flying bullets continue normally. However, because the timeframe in which these actions would have happened is erased, the events do not exist per se and don't have lasting consequences. People won't remember anything that happened within the erased time nor will the phenomenons cause other events (as such flying bullets will appear to have passed through people without actually hurting them). When time appears again, people will suddenly find themselves in the situation they are supposed to be as if nothing unusual happened during the erased time frame. On the other hand, Diavolo remains fully conscious during the erased time and only he can readjust his actions. Diavolo sees the erased time as a void filled with juxtapositions of what would have happened during this period in a fashion akin to Nude Descending a Staircase, allowing him to think out the next best action (for instance, when Bruno Bucciarati tried to punch Diavolo during the erased time, Diavolo saw Bruno's superimposed positions during his punch). While Diavolo can interact with himself (demonstrated when he cuts his own hand during the erased time) and can interact manually with objects not currently or fated to be affected by other phenomena (cleaning up his temporary work station at a motel within the erased time), it is worth noting that King Crimson cannot directly interact with people until time returns to normal, as opposed to The World, which was able to interact with the whole physical realm while it was stopped. What he sees are just projections of people, and not people themselves.
>>
>>151735103
>>151745005

King Crimson's ability duration is dependent on Diavolo's stamina, as during the battle with Risotto Nero, he admitted that the iron-deficient and tired state he was currently in prevented him from erasing time for more than an instant; as such, he tries to make his fights short.

This ability can also be interpreted as "removing cause" in contrast to Gold Experience Requiem's ability to "remove effect". In the former's case, all interactions are skipped over and their results are nullified (events continue to occur for the people affected), whereas the latter instead creates a never-ending cycle of an interaction with no result ever occurring (a single event is never completed for the person affected).
