In your opinion, what makes a protagonist likeable besides "self inserting"?
Something like Tomoki.
I'm fine with pretty much anything as long as they're not beta. I seriously fucking despise betas.
Cool helmet
They have to be Intelligent, Nihilistic and with a Wicked Sense of Humor

"Self inserting" is what makes the protag unlikable. I want protagonists with personality, preferably a likable or understandable personality that influences others and becomes influenced in turn.

Variety in their behavior and interactions.
Plot progression.
Having to see them all the time means the MC will never shine like a side character. Everything they do becomes normal because character personality can't change all the time. The best way an MC can do is keep the plot moving fast, not hog the spotlight, and/or try to keep up some variety.

This. Nothing makes for an unlikable protagonist more than them being some beta otaku self-insert.
Another thing I despise is when the protagonist is always yelling and overreacting to things. The Sakurasou douchebag is a prime example.

That's a dumb opinion. There are plenty of heroes who carry a series all by themselves, because their personalities are so great.

That was so awful in OreImo. Kyousuke was constantly yelling for no reason, often in crowded public areas.

Keima is a romcom/harem protagonist who is the main reason to read/watch the series. Too bad he'll be forever marred by a clumsy final arc and controversy over who he chose.

>controversy
What controversy? He got together with the best girl who made the most sense for him.

I don't care, they'll never be another thread that isn't about that.

A man who is a proud advocate of gender equality.

For you.
>>151725208
>likable
+has a strong, distinctive personality
+can keep his composure
+takes care of his bros; isn't nice only to girls
>unlikable
-overly relatable or pandering to otaku audience
-bland, faceless
-too emotional
-"nice guy" because he says nice things to the female characters
>>151726507
That is what makes Touma such a good MC

> Cool helmet
Are there any main characters except Goblin Slayer and Sunabouzu, that constantly wear a helmet?

Having a burning cock is a good start.
